Heaters In Tree Stands

Recommended Posts

Does anyone use them in a there tree stands. I have a buddy who wants to put one (mr buddy) in his to try and stay warm. He is not in a open area where the deer will be 100+ yards away, his furthest shot might be 70 yards. He is in a "box stand" so it might cut down on the noise/smell.

Thanks

I wouldn't simply due to the smell they put off. Secondly, I know two years ago a gentleman died due to a fire in his stand from a sun-flower heater (Different, I know, but thought it should be mentioned)

Be very careful & good luck.

Been doing it for years, nice to warm up when its really cold out. Haven't seen those kind of temps for many years so I generally don't use one any more. If the wind is in your favor the deer can't smell the heater and they don't make much noise.

We all have kerosene heaters in all of our permanent stands for years without problems. quiet, and we've all had deer pass right under the stands, you just need to be aware of what you're doing when lighting and running the heaters. Heck, I even put pop tarts on top to have a nice warm breakfast laugh

My grandpa sat with a fuel oil burner in his stand and always shot a deer. The key was he could stay on stand and not have to go in to warm up.

I kind of wonder if the heater helps mask the human scent and The deer are more comfortable with that.

I have a Buddy heater in my enclosed stands nice to be able to shed the heavy layers and be comfy I do sit in a hang on stand during bow season and opening day so when the weather turns cold or rainy like last year its nice to be able to have a little heat to take the chill away

We have box stands and use buddy heaters. work good. we started out using mr heaters and i would have deer right under my stand. the only bad thing about the mr heater was it was harder to here the deer crunching the leaves. not a problem now with the buddy heater.

There really isn't anything to mask our scent, the deer will smell us no matter what. Its just a matter of how much they react to that smell.

I sit in a box stand from an hour before shooting time till dark.

The heat will help you stay all day. The last 4 years my deer have been shot around 11:00 when everyone is heading in for Lunch! I think they see movement as much as smell. The box helps hid your movements as well. My 9 yo daughter sat with me 13 hours on opening day and she was with Sunday when I shot a buck at 11:00. She never would have made it that long without heat! I used a coleman power cat heater. full-4057-39196-deerpic.jpg
