honda strike lite

Happy with my ION but was disappointed to hear there's no 10" for it this year so now I'm kicking around getting the new Honda strike lite in a 10". After a winter of being out what's the verdict on the ease of starting? Is it cold blooded after it starts? What's the speed like compared to the Solo powered augers? If you go to YouTube there's a video of the 3hp solo racing a honda lite and it's a dead even tie. http://youtu.be/HuumVe2DeJE

I thought the Honda was supposed to be kinda slow from some of the reviews I've read.

In a ten hole run StrikeMaster Solo VS Honda there's barely a one hole difference in speed, in short the Solo is only 1-3 seconds faster per-hole. IMO honda starts better than the Solo and they both need the same time to warm up, the one thing I notice was the Honda stays warmer way longer than the Solo. So, if you are running after the first initial start-up/warm-up and honda takes less time to get to business than the 2 stroke.

Above all, I like filling the Honda straight from the pump at the gas station (around 60-70 cents)

Back to the ION I've talked to some people that work for stores that sell them and they said they've been told ION they won't do a 10" because the number of holes would go way down, that even though it's only 20% larger it has much more of an effect then 20% less battery life. Why can't ION sell a 10" separate for guys with a wheel house that only need to get 4 to 8 holes out of a charge? They could put a disclaimer on it saying it's just for hard sided house or something like that.

But then it wouldn't reopen holes like it does now. JSK, they will talk to you if you call and tell you their thoughts. I offered to buy a larger drill and to be a tester and agree to void my warrant but they don't seem to want to go bigger. Even an inch would be an improvement but I'm getting used to the hole size now.

The ion is actually only 7.5" I would be happy with a true 9". I agree you do get use to the size after awhile and the only time it bothers me is in the wheel house. With my old SM 10.25" and my catch cover sleeves the whole opening was basically water. If I never had a 10.25 it would bother me.

I bought the honda last year and put a 10 in chipper on it. After a few holes my arms were shot it was slow and the torque was hard to handle on the arms. Now the 8 in lazer bit was nice but wouldn't recommend putting a 10 chipper on it. I ended up returning it and buying the solo 3hp.

Between bait and truck gas and all the other expenses, the auger gas expense is far from the top of my list. It would be nice not to have to mix gas, but not to difficult either, since the chainsaw, weedeater and leaf blower all use the same...

10 might be a little big but like JSK said, why not a 9 or at least a big 8 instead of this 7 1/2? Ion has a shaver blade unlike the Lazers and I think that's why it does well with little torque. I don't need 40 holes either with a permmy, plus I can recharge the battery if needed. I thought they were meant for permanent houses and create no fumes , never meant to be a hole hopper drill so why go smaller? Please the market you have. Don't get me wrong though, I like mine a lot.

Sorry, we have hijacked this thread.
