Won a Marlin 45/70! Now what?

Recommended Posts

I won this great gun, but I don't hunt bears or large game that would need this Cannon? What can a guy do? Is it bad form to trade them off or is it common? The group is a great organization and I bought the tickets not expecting to win anything... I am not saying I won't keep it but not sure what i would use it for? The question is do many people trade them off or sell them when they win a gun?

Most organizations that raffle off guns expect them to get traded in. The Gun shops they get them from usually give a better deal to those organizations because of that. Our chapter of MDHA raffles off around 200 guns per year, and at least half get traded in for something else, so the gun shop gives us a really good deal on the guns to begin with.

This is what I was wondering. Thanks, I really didn't want the organization to get a bad rep or lose buying power next year, if I didn't keep the gun I won. Sounds naive I guess but I have not been through this before and am not a "gun guy" so this may become my new GPS/Locator for my boat! (or at least a down payment on it!) Thanks everybody

Love my 45-70! AWESOME - AWESOME deer gun. short, quick handling. Dispatches deer quickly and cleanly.

I have the same gun minus the stainless. 1.5x4 scope on it... Great to 150 yards and competent to 200 yards. I was shooting at the range last fall and at 200 yards I was grouping about 4" (maybe slightly larger than a baseball) w/ 4 power just using the bench, no rest. At 100 I was grouping about 1.5", again no rest.

It is NOT too much gun for deer. My stand I can shoot to about 165 yards in one direction and would take that shot if it presented itself. All other shots are 100 yards or less.

The new Hornady Leverolution bullets are fantastic.

Good Luck!

Ken
