Has anyone ever just had their SD card taken?

So, I went out to check my trail camera on a relatively secluded piece of public land. It's a decent amount of work to get back into the woods there and I a put up an el cheapo ($35) Menard's special that seems to work great. But when I went to check on it a week later, the SD card was gone! I put in a new one, thinking I can't believe I forgot that. I always test the cameras when I put them up. I must have forgot. But now I'm almost positive I had set it right. Weird someone would just take the SD card. Usually if you're that big of a silly me, you go all out. Now, I'm thinking, I had better get back out there before the guy decides to take the whole works or another memory card. Can't find the other one anywhere so I'm almost positive it was taken.

But its public land. I know I'm taking a chance with the camera on public land but again, I thought I'd gamble the $35 as it seems like a good spot and I haven't seen many people frequenting this spread. Nor is there much evidence. Maybe they thought it was private but its posted public on the borders fairly well!

I've never had one taken but it does happen. Now I bring a stand with me and hang my cams up high.

Yup. I put up cameras on public as well and do the same thing as Bear55. Though I don't get the awesome close-up pictures that most guys get, it's enough to give me an idea of what kind of deer are in the area and what times they come through which is all I ask for.

Haven't had an issue *yet* but we'll see. I'm checking one this weekend. 1.3 miles back and through some thick nasty stuff to get there. Hopefully, it's still there.

Yeah, I went out quick today and pulled it. It's a few minute drive from the house. I have a few private places I have permission to hunt that I can put it instead! I will just have to do in person scouting on the public area while hunting. I bought a Ghillie suit this year for that purpose. So I can be more mobile on public land without having to move stands or haul blinds around. Good luck everyone.
