SledNeck
What are some good bass lakes in the Rhinelander area?Ill be there for a few days next month at a friends cabin. We want to try some bass lakes. And can you use a trolling motor on them?
newoodhntr
The only place close to Rhinelander where you can troll is the Rainbow Flowage. It does have some nice bass in it.
SledNeck
How do people bass fish lake where trolling isn't allowed? Do they troll anyways?
gardn184
As long as you're casting and reeling while your boat is under propulsion it's not considered trolling, just don't let your line drag behind the boat. That's the way it's always been explained to me and how everyone there follows it. As far as smallie lakes near Rhinelander any of the clear deep weed lakes will have a lot of them. Find a 3 or 4 foot rock bar and you should be mint. PM me if you have further questions I grew up there
SledNeck
Thanks. I won't have any problem catching them. Just want to know what waters to try. We stay on a small clear lake there, but the fish run very small and I wanted to see if there was some good stuff worth trying. This trolling stuff in Wisconsin seems a little backwards to me, you'd figure for a state that's outdoors oriented that they wouldn't have some weird rule like that. newoodhntr
We had trolling few years ago but the musky fishermen shot it down. They are trying to bring it back state wide but the governor didn't sign the bill for it to take affect.
Lunker
If you head any direction from Rhinelander there is a ton of good fishing, and there is always the river system and it's flowages as well. The only lake I fished really close to town is Boom and the river system, but did quite a bit around Minocqua, Tomahawk, etc.
