I had the pleasure of meeting "hunt4food" ,and his father I believe, at the St. Paul Ice Fishing show, Friday night. It was great talking with you. Hope to see you on the ice sometime.

Dave, I also enjoyed our converstion. That wheeler looked pretty sassy!! I will definitely get out of the way if I see those tires humming toward my direction! Anytime you want to try the East Metro fishing, let me know! I would be happy to show you a few of my Pike hotspots! My freezer is full of Venison right now so if you come out, maybe you can help me consume some smoked brats and Rolling Rocks while watching flags!!

Rick, I checked out that Ice Scout ATV shack for you last night. It is very easy to remove with two pins. I liked it, but the price seems a little steep for me. I will definitely keep an eye on it. It had a great built in chair that functioned very well too.

I use a plastic rectangular gun case to store my multiple fishing rods etc. As you know the gun case is padded on the inside and there is ample room for small tackle boxes etc. Bumps are no trouble and the case takes up little room.

If someone comes up with a fool proof lantern carrying idea please pass it on. Thank god the coleman lanterns still work without a globe!

Will do, hunt4food. THANKS for the invite.
I also looked over the Ice Scout today. Yup, detaches from the ATV rack with two hitch pins. Like hunt4food, I still think that's way too much for a unit, however. It looked like a solid unit thou.

Dave,
I saw that wimpy ATV of yours in the Otter display yesterday grin.gif

Otter has a good idea with the Auger carrier. How much is it?

Sorry I missed you at the show.

The Otter Ice Shield's (no mounting brackets)retail for $39.99. I don't know what the vendors were getting for them. The brackets I had on there were cobbled up for the show; to let others know that mounting 'em on a wheeler can be done.

I have a medium Otter house that I absolutely love! Wht I did to transport my auger and supplies was to first mount two eyebolts, (one on either side of the shack) and use two bungee cords one on the handles by the powerhead and one by th blades, this secured the auger pretty darn good! I also mounted a big tupperware box with bolts through the bottom of the sled. This works great for hauling my vexilars, Aqua Vu, my heater and any miscelaneous gear I want to kep dry and unbroken! The storage bin also works great for a seat!

Iam thinking about a three man sled with fishhouse not sure which way to go Frabill Triplex or the new Otter, not sure of the model of the Otter any suggestions. I've seen the Otter set up but haven't seen the Frabill Triplex set up. I want to take my Son and Grandson Ice fishing if we ever get any ice in southern MN and want to have enough room so we don't feel like were sitting on top of each other.

I did kind of like the Otter Resort when I looked at it at Cabela's, but when I was looking at the Frabill XLTwin some guy came by and said he liked his Frabill really will. I'am not sure I like it as dark inside as the Frabill gets, but there is times in clear water it would be easier to see down the hole. And it would be nice to not have a light of sometype during the day just to tie a hook on. I plan I pulling whatever I get behind my four wheeler, it would be nice to be able to get it and my four wheeler into my 6x12 enclosed trailer. I think the Frabill triplex will go in all I should have to do is unhook the sled from the four wheeler and slid the fish house up to the back of the four wheeler with the hitch sliding under the four wheeler. What I need to do is load the four wheeler and see how much room I have left it may make the decison for me. It looks like the Otter Resort is 84" long and The Triplex is 77" long.

I took my Lodge home in an enclosed 6x12 trailer. Four wheeler went in first (had other stuff in front of trailer) and then, I tilted the Lodge, left side up, right side down, and slide it in behind the trailer that way. SO, as you're loking in the trailer, it had the front of the sled up on the left side and the rear of the sled was on the right bottom. Just an idea that may work for the Resort.

I loaded the four wheeler i only have 70" from the rear of the wheels to the back of the trailer I guess Iam going to have to rethink what type of house I will get

I looked at the specks on the Frabill Speed Shaks 6035 XL That I could pull into the Trailer behind the four wheeler and tip it up and slide it in along side of the four wheeler than use my otter sled to store my gear in and set it on top of the Speed Shak when going across the lake any body got any comments on the Frabill Speed Shaks GOOD BAD Or Otherwise.

Just a thought. Do you have anything on the rear rack of your wheeler? Maybe you can hoist the front of the sled onto the rear rack (or front rack if you back the wheeler in) and have enough room that way? (I assume your enclosed trailer is about six feet high)

I looked at that to i would have to remove the rack on the back to get it to slide over the back of the four wheeler. Not sure about the weight to try and left it that high by myself? I keep thinking iam going to have to go to another suit case style house and pull it behind my otter sled like I have been doing with my clam classic. Sure seems like the Sled type houses are the way to go. My buddies told me last night to just go buy a bigger trailer. Nice idea but I don't want to do that right now.

Hi Dave, Did you buy the yolks you use for your auger someplace, or was it a custom job? Also, is the mounting equipment available for that hard plastic holder that you had at the show. Thanks a lot for any info.

Scott,
If I ever spoke about 'yolks' for carrying an auger, it'd have to be the Ryan Yolks. USL markets those now.
The mounts I made for the Otter Ice Shield were made just before the show; to give people an idea what they COULD do with one of those Ice Shields.

Hey Guy's, I have a wheeler and use it for hunting and fishing. A friend made a bucket holder for bear baiting and it worked so good I had him make me one. It's super simple for a welder. 1" square tubing. It holds 3 buckets and extends from your rack (either one) and the buckets just drop in and hold on by their lip. As for you power auger I use a $20 gun rack to hold the power head and a bungy to hold the auger down.
A bent piece of conduit holds my shack instead of towing it.
It's all pretty inexpensive.
A picture is worth a thousand words.
If you want a pic e mail me at [email protected]

Later,

Ferny.

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
