I am looking for a speed trolling book that gives you the amount of line to let out for your lure size and depth of water you are in. Rapala had one at one time but I can not find these books anywhere. Any help would be helpfull.

If you find a precession trolling book your one lucky man they quit publishing them because people just bought and made copies for friends. There is a new app on smart phones that is or already available.

There are trolling cards available at some sporting goods stores but that's as close as your going to get to the trolling book.

Its not like I don't like to read books to learn. I heard threw the grape vine that the owner/publisher was getting ripped off on this book. So I can see his reason for no more books. The internet has exploded and technology of smart phones has reached a level that its even easier to copy and share stuff.

I'm pretty new at trolling but with line counters you can get a pattern put down pretty quick. The one thing that I use off of every crank bait box is the dive curve and the weight of the lure. The dive curve gets me in the ball park of were its going and when that particular crank is on i will run until it crashes and right it on the box and thrn at home i will right it on the bill i slawys use 100' to keep things square. And go from there. I know its a long process but just think you can really know exactly were your lures are running at 100'. Dont forget your line counter may say 100' but is it really 100' I have put major time into calibration of my 3 counters. There only a few feet off and thats marked on each one and on top of that tbey all have the same line.... I know its alot to take in but it has helped me a lot to do it this way.

I got the stickers this spring

Ironic about the book being copied. I already too pics on my phone of the stickers in case anything happens to them, then I can print them off again if I need to or just double check on my phone, books are not the only thing that u can make a copy of, heck I guess I could just bring all the stickers in & make my own copies on personal printer...

I checked out some of the stickers the other day and they seem to be more expensive than the app. It looked like $25 for one package of stickers specific to one lure (ie Salmo hornet, etc). That's a lot of change to drop if you are looking at several lures that you may want to troll. I think Ill put in the time and figure it out myself.

Trial and error takes some time when trolling cranks. I use a bobber stop on the line to tell me when I am out far enough. Everyone uses a different approach, but I use #10 Fireline @ approx. 120 feet back with most cranks. I have found that the running depths posted on the lure boxes is very approx. so you have to do a little experimenting. It's always fun to try different lures.

I got the trolling charts from an online auction not long ago and have noticed that with 10# mono, most shallower running cranks (under 15' max depth) are within six inches to a foot of their max running depth with 100' of line out. For example, an SR7 runs at just over 10 feet down with 100' out but gets to 11' down with 140' out. With that info, you should be able to look at the max depth a crank runs and get pretty close to the water depth you want to target. I use the charts and line counters all the time though because it's nice to run the size crank you want at the depth you want with minimal guess work. Reef Runners and other deep diving cranks are a big exception to the above info though - you might be able to gain an additional 5-6 feet of depth after 100' of line out.

      got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out

      Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!

      we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
