Dexter!

I expect a season opener to have a fairly good surprise element or two, but last night's premiere hand bunches of them, especially at the end...could NOT have seen that coming! I think we are in for one heckuva season. Dexter has totally snapped, and I expect some jaw-dropping moments over the remainder of the series. What was your take on last night's (final) season premiere?

It started last night already?

I know, it threw me off, too, but I am guessing they are running it now (last season of the show) and will premiere something in its time slot for the fall season... They replay it a bunch during the week if anyone needs to get got up.

this final season has been awesome so far! I was a couple weeks behind due to vacation, but I'm caught up now! do you guys think she is the brain surgeon? I'm leaning that way, but you never know with Dexter!

It can't be over soon enough. The last 2 seasons of this show have been almost unwatchable for me. I've just kept watching because I've been watching from the start.

I sort of agree. While, this season is much better than the season 7 disaster, this show has over run its course by a long shot.

IMO, this show should have ended in Season 5. Season 4 was epic, then 5 was poor, 6 was okay, 7 horrid and 8 was decent, but way too over the top.

I'm only watching it cause I've been watching it since the beginning and it was once my favorite.

It'll be interesting to see how they end it. A LOT needs to happen in the next episode, we'll see how it wraps up.

still a great show, imo. yea the last couple years have fallen off a bit, but still LOVE IT!

Agreed. I think the things that make this show great have come full circle in this season and it's really been captivating TV again. My only concern is that with so many crazy big loose ends right now, how do they sew that up in an hour? I have said from the beginning that Dexter dies, gets caught, or flees (obvious enough, right?), but it's pointing more towards death or cuffs right now considering what's going on. But how could the series NOT end with a Dexter monologue? It'd throw the whole narrative portion of the series away...

Crazy, just for fun, possible ending? Dexter is killed and Harrison ends up in a pool of his blood...and the start of a new series, "Harrison," in about 10 years wink

Excited, but nervous, that this could end in a way that $%*$#( me off! In any case, great show, and one that is going to be hard to top, IMO.

boy oh boy. I don't know what to think. I'm still trying to process last night's finale. Online blogs blew up last night saying how horrible it was, I don't agree it was that bad. I actually don't like that they left it open. whew! what a run though, all in all, an extremely captivating 8 years of Dexter! ****spoiler alert**** but the ending?????? a lumberjack??!!?! really?

%&#(@)!!!

That sums up how I feel about last night's ending. I tried for a long time to let it sink in, process, manifest...whatever...and it always comes back to "that was ^%*$ing stupid!" Just a tiny percentage of me understands why they did it (he realized after killing Saxon that he would never change, so to protect Hannah and Harrison, he needed to disappear), but come on, now! The entire Dexter series was gradually moving towards him changing his life, understanding and feeling with his emotions a bit better, dealing with them, etc., and then it all disappears with letting Deb go, so he has to disappear forever? That just didn't fit his character, the direction the show was going, anything... It felt very out of place to me.

I really wanted to get my GF into this series, and had her convinced how good it was (with plans to start Season One soon), but I won't do that to her now knowing how disappointed she'd be with this ending. If there goal was to make sure that no one ever referred others to the show, with another goal to make sure you have such a bad taste in your mouth that you don't miss the show at all, they succeeded in a monumental way.

That was the most horrible, cram fest I've seen. They tried to tie up WAY too much in 50 minutes last night.

****SPOILER ALERT****

One thing that got me was the fact that they let Dexter live, maybe not the same Dexter but he should have died. For all the people he's murdered and lives he's ruined...don't get me wrong Dexter is my fav. serial killer but he needed to die. I guess in a way he did at the end, knowing that Hannah and Harrison are out there and he has to live with that every single day for the rest of his life.

I was SO hoping at that very last scene when he looked at the camera either he or his inner monologue was going to say "...Tonight's the night..."

Oh well at least it's over and I can close that chapter of a horribly written past 3-4 seasons.

What a horrible ending to what once was one of the best shows.

Apparently this producer Clyde Phillips, who left after season 4, was the key to this show. I understand now why there was such a decline in quality since the end of Season 4.

Pikestabber was right, it's tough to promote this show to anyone knowing how poorly it ends. I'd suggest to anyone to just stop watching after the first episode of season 5 (I felt that eisode winds down the insane drama of how 4 ended and seems to be a good stopping point).

Dexter needed to be caught or dead!

now that I've had time to let it absorb, I understand the ending a little better. he put himself in that life as a sort of punishment as well as keeping others safe. he is surrounded by the sound of chainsaws all day. a chainsaw is how it all started when his mother was killed.

After letting it sink in, I am a LITTLE better with the ending, too. Nice connection to the chainsaws...hadn't thought of that.
