Rod handle with concealed reel seat

Here is a handle that I just finished that features a hidden reel seat and no exposed hardware. I like this design because it is comfortable and no metal to get cold. The handle splits in half at the reel and is fastened with a screw through the butt cap. A few others in this design are pictured as well.

we are going to have to get together sometime and have you show me how to build this style handle. I think it would be cool in solid wood instead of the cork. Where do you get the inserts for doing this or do you make them your self.

friend John on facebook. he has more pictures of the process there. Maybe he will post the pictures on here. from the pictures I seen on his facebook page, it is a wood reel seat inside of a metal tube. the cork is then glued on the metal tube and fitted together and shaped.

That's really a great idea. You better name that the Kentucky handle because it's so close to a Tennessee!

Here is one I did. I gutted an ugly stick for the reel seat insert, and used a Forstner bit to inlet the cork. Not perfect by any means, but it is so comfy and very light in hand.

Thanks guys. It took me a while to figure out how I wanted it. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. Definitely need the pits filled and another coat of U40. It's on a 6' MHX blank. Really happy with the setup.
