Anyone check out the new fishing show/competition last night on Animal Planet?

It was actually a little better than I expected.

It follows a successful format that Survivor started where you have 2 teams that compete in a team competition then the losers of that competition go against each other in an elimination round.   Last night they had to dip net Tilapia while going down a zip line and then the elimination round was walking across small logs to a platform casting to trout. Last person to catch a fish was out.   The prior night they got to pick their gear and I kind of chuckled when the “Fly fishing expert” was the only one to grab a fly rod.  While the rest chose spinning gear and small inline spinners and some sort of live bait.    Guess who went home?  LOL

I expected it to be pretty corny, but I think I might end up liking the show.  Next week it looks like they are headed offshore with Jetskis and big outrigger canoes

Not sure if the animal planet execs put a lot of thought into that title. Sounds like a show set in Vegas.

I was flipping through the channels last night and thought "Top Hooker, This might be worth a quick look" laugh

I was hoping to see some fishing or some hookers, so i didn't watch too long.

I thought the 2nd episode was much better than the first.  They had some interesting challenges (surf distance casting contest, outrigger canoe fishing, and fishing off a jet ski).   Pilgrim studios is the producer of Top Shot.  I see this basically as a fishing rendition of Top Shot.

Face it, you can only make watching fishing only so exciting, plus you are always at the mercy of the fish actually biting.

Next week is stream Fly Fishing and I have a feeling a lot of them are going to have trouble with a fly rod

I got a big laugh when they had to get into a canoe, one of the "Top hookers" said they have never been in a canoe before ....Seriously? Any avid fisherman IMO should have a little experience in a canoe.

Makes me wonder what actual fishing background some of these people have.

Canoes and me dont go well together. Like oil and water. Love/hate type thing.

The episode I watched had them casting for trout on this platform and they had to catch a fish and then return to the center area. The one guy had a messed up knee and couldnt move well.

The way they handled fishing rods makes me wonder if they are any more experienced than my kids. The guy with the flyrod seemed capable though.

lol. I love canoes, survived many adventures in a canoe. Unless in lake like conditions, i'll ride solo in my canoe. Have enough stories of other people dumping the canoe. Haha, some real funny stories-luckily. Ive floated several of the local rivers at record, or near record heights, bout the only time i get the canoe out anymore...get yourself in & out of trouble. smile

Well they have succeeded in keeping my interest to see what kind of competitions they come up with each week.   Last night they had an interesting one which was a timed event where you back up a boat/trailer through a series of winding gates and then into the water.   I found it interesting that not a one of them used their mirrors to back up (instead looking back over their shoulder).  Using your mirrors would have helped a lot I think.

Of course they had to throw in the catfish hand fishing, I would have bet money on that being one of the competitions. I think they all made the same mistake of trying to either pin it against the wall or just chase it around the tank hopping to nab it.  It seems like the best tactic when grabbing a fish is approach it very slowly then quickly snipe it, just like a big fish would do when it eats.  J

Then they had a goofy competition with foot pontoons.  I didn’t care for that one at all.

With some tweaking I think this could be a pretty cool show.  The host is not very good, they should have really went with someone who is recognizable in the fishing world.  Plenty of energetic TV types that would have been good  (Iaconnelli or Charlie Moore type).

In all though I love the fact that they didn’t turn a fishing show into a Bass fishing show.  They’ve mixed in a lot of stuff from Bow Fishing to Fly Fishing to Micro fishing

I only caught two episodes and the catfish tank was one of them. The chick and bass pro had the right idea going into it; play it cool and ease into the fish but the other two went hog wild so the first pair had to use plan B and fish like a predator. grin

From your descriptions Dtro, I think I missed the good shows.

I watched just a few minutes of this show, and I figured out in those few minutes, I would much rather be out fishing, then watch a drama induced fishing show on tv, that isnt about fishing.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
