Shroom hunting with the kids-Does it get much better?

Recommended Posts

Had a very enjoyable Sunday of Memorial Day weekend here in the west metro area. The wife and I love getting our 2 1/2 yr old son outside any chance we get..fishing, hunting, hiking, biking, etc. And then there's those few peak weeks in May when I love getting into the woods looking for morels. Sunday morning I had about and hour to kill early, so I decided to try one of my hotspots that I had checked a few times in the last 10 day...finally, yesterday, I found 35 nice morels....

After a quick Memorial weekend brunch with the fam, my wife and I decided to take Cole out for an afternoon walk in the woods. In less than an hour we found another 35 morels. At one point my wife and I found about 5 nice yellows near an old dead elm. We both squatted down near the ground, eyeing the forest floor for a few seconds when we heard..."Hey, I found one!" We both looked around, and there's Cole, holding up a beautiful morel. My wife and I both look at eachother wide eyed, then even looked towards our shroom sack thinking he grabbed one from the bag. No, sure enough he found it tucked next to a fallen limb, and he was sure to show us exactly where he picked it. Anyway, just looking through pics from yesterday and thought I'd share. Happy hunting.
