Hi guys. Looking for some advice on where i can get replacement screws and o rings for my lower unit. My motor is a 45 hp mariner. Im not sure what year it is? Maybe around a 1996? The serial number is ob161764...Can any of you fellow fishermen give me some advise? Thx in advance...

Thanks guys. Will i need to know the year of the motor to get the correct screws or are they pretty standard? Its my dads motor and cant remember the year. Can the dealer tell what year it is from the serial number? Thank you guys!

Yes and yes. They are all pretty similar but it's helpful to know the right year and horsepower. The model number would be most useful but they may be able to look up the serial number as well. Here is what I found online, so it's a 1995 if you mis-read/wrote the "G" as a "B"

45**A196092 - A948903 <> 1985

45**A948904 - B170480 <> 1986

45**B170481 - B238643 <> 1987

45**B238644 - B393189 <> 1988

45**9506101 - 9550347 <> 1988

45**B393190 -> <> 1989

45**9550348 -> <> 1989

45 Jet**0G116485 - 0G290584 <> 1995

45 Jet**0G290585 -> <> 1996

If that is the 4 cylinder two stroke, merc made those lower units for a long time and I find it hard to imagine that they changed the screws just for fun. I bet if you went to a merc dealer and said you need drain plug screws for a classic 50 or a 45 mariner that you wouldn't get the right thing.

Good go know about the magnet. Now you got me thinking if I even paid attention to which one I put where. I wonder if the magnet is strong enough on the outside to hold a paper clip or it it is only on the inside end of the screw. Trying to determine if I can check from the outside or not.

It is pretty obvious. The bottom screw is longer and has a pointy part on the end. Pull the top screw, the vent, so the lube won't run out and look at it. If it is short and flat on the end it is the right screw.
