anchor man
I am looking to get a short reed goose call and don't know exactly what to get. I'm interested in the Haydel's Blackfoot call, has anyone heard or used that one? Any others $30 or less that are short reed and sound good? I only have the Big River long honker now, and want one more to add to the arsenal. Thanks

Bryce
See if you can find a call made by Paul England. It's either the Pit Boss or Pit Crew. OD plastic that looks like it's military issue. Was about $25 when I bought mine several years ago. Haven't used my Grounds call since.------------------IBOT's # 17 &
huntnfish
The short reed that Big River sells sounds pretty decent. There are also a lot of smaller call makers that make a very good call. Heartland Calls out of South Dakota has a very good delrin for $30 to $40. Another good one is Winglock. They have a wood and a plastic model for around $30 that is also very good. If you do a search for those names you can find their websites. There are so many good calls on the market right now that it is pretty hard to go wrong with any of them. My advice would be to go to a local sporting goods store and blow a few and see which feels the best to you.

Bushwacker
I would definitely go with a Winglock SR. You can get a walnut model for right around $30. They are on the internet and now at most GM's. I have a Delrin Winglock and I really like it. It cost me about $55.00 and it was well worth the money. I had a mini-lesson at the Game Fair from their rep at the booth and he pushed me over the hump. Very goosey sounding and the owner Rick Perry has the most excellent customer service of any call maker that I have dealt with. Lifetime free tuning to get it just right for your individual needs. esoxguy2004
If you live in the metro area or even the St.Paul area, try going to Joe's Sporting Goods in Little Canada. There is a salesman there by the name of Shane. He mostly works Wed. evenings and sometimes on the weekends. He grew up learning to call with the best of the best (Buck Gardner, Tim Grounds, etc.). He used to call competitively but got out of it. He showed me so many different calls. He showed me $100 calls and compared them to $20 calls and saved me a ton of money. All of the guys there are well knowledged and fun to talk with. I recommend checking it out!!
superfish2
I picked up a mick lacey short reed at the game fair for about $25. I had never used a short reed and sounded like a kazoo with most short reeds. The Mick Lacey is cheap and it seems to be pretty easy to learn on. Ben Nicholson
Stay away from the Blackfoot. Horrible call, I know from experience.Get either a River Mallard do a search for his HSOforum. I think his polys start around $25 or 30. You'll have to email him because they aren't on his site yet. My second choice would be a Winglock. They are also good calls, just not quite as good as a River Mallard.Good Luck,Ben
honker23
I have used the magnum clucker by Knight and Hale for years. 15$ and works well for me.
huntnfish
I have never blown the blackfoot. I have a friend that bought one and he was going to let me try it. The thing smelled horrible and I couldn't bring myself to try it. I think all of the Haydel's calls have that smell to it. All of them at the store had the same smell when he brought it back.
