straydog
Just tried this recipe with some crappies and I thought it was pretty dam good, plus simple and no mess. 1) cube potatoes, (appetite and size of potatoes will determine how many per person)place in kettle of water and start boiling water. Slowly add three table spoons of salt. Boil for ten minutes. In the mean time quarter up some onions, again amount is your preference. 2)add onions and boil for six minutes. 3) when the six minutes is up add chunked up fish and boil for twelve minutes. 4) strain mixture add butter, pepper, and eat. note- water needs to be at a boil when timing
delcecchi
You don't need to have water boiling to cook fish. And 12 minutes seems a little long, unless they are pretty thick chunks. We do something similar camping. Add a pack of crab boil to the water to start.
BLACKJACK
I do something similar, except I throw the onion and salt in right away, along with a bay leaf, when its boiling, throw in your potatoes (and carrots), boil for 8-10 minutes, throw in fish, when it hits boil again, drain, throw some butter on top, and let it stand a few minutes. It doesn't take long to boil fish and be gentle on the draining, you'll break up the fish if you're draining them back and forth to much. LindellProStaf
I boil fish once in awhile for a change of pace. I saw it on a fishing show. It is kinda fun and real easy. I cut the fish in nice sized chunks. I spice the water up with whatever I am wanting first. Then I bring it to a boil and then drop the fish in. When the fish chunks float I scoop them out. Just a minute or two. Perfect every time. If you wait too long it falls apart. Then I mix horseradish with ketchup to make my seafood sauce to dip in. OR I mix 1 part of dill relish, 1 part of sweet relish, and 1 part of Miracle Whip and there is my tartar sauce. I got the tartar sauce recipe from Doug and Marilyn back when they owned the Royal Dutchman on the Rainy River. I haven't bought tartar sauce since.
