Anyone have advice or tips for hunting in this fresh 10-12 in. of snow. Heard a few gobbles early this morning then nothing. drove around looking for birds trying to feed but nothing. Please help!

They typcially hunker down in weather like this for a day or two. Evergreens, especially cedars, or any other thick stuff or ravines to keep them out of deep snow and wind should hold birds. Cattle yards too. You could try to catch them on the way back to roost where you heard them gobbling this morning, but that's not always a sure thing. Snow is great scouting tool, backtrack their tracks and find the roost and direction they went in the morning. Setup in their path where they want to go and you'll be putting yourself at good odds.

Good advice stick. You probably won't see many while scouting from the truck. No reason for them to be out in the fields now with all the snow cover. Check the woodlots for tracks, especially near cattle.

why is it that you tend to focus toward cattle in these conditions? This theory definitely proved to be true last week for my hunt here in SD.

Is it because its a easy access to food for the birds vs scratching and digging in the snow?

With cattle I would think its because they will have the snow knocked down in the cattle yards and cattle eat corn and when they defecate it is full of corn/grain and I think the turkeys pick up the kernels of left over grain.

At least that is what I have witnessed with birds and cattle.

have cattle feeding less than 200 yds from my setup. im kinda on higher ground in the woods from where the cattle are. when driving around i was checking other cattle spots where we have seen them before still nothing.
