Lincoln

Interesting movie. Not what I thought it would be but it was pretty darn good. I surely didn't think it would begin at the stage of his presidency that it did.

I'm not sure how much of the back room dealing and partisan bickering is truthful or just Hollywood. If there's truth to it they were as sickening then as they are now.

I thought it was awesome. I expected more war scenes but it was a great political movie. The story of Lincoln getting slavery abolished before the end of the war then pardoning the confederate soldiers.

As for the accuracy of the back room dealings, I wouldn't doubt it. I'm sure it was a lot easier back then, not as much press.

Saw a fluff piece on the movie awhile back, can't remember what network did it...Spielberg had some documentation, journals and other private correspondence, that backed up what was shown in the movie. I'm certain they took some liberties with it, but yeah, politics...has the purity of a cockroach nest.

I think its worth seeing. Its very interesting to see how the politics of the time worked. In a lot of ways its the exact same as it is today and in some ways it was much worse. No matter how divided you think the country is today its nothing compared to how things were back then.

I'm sure there were some liberties taken throughout the movie but I think there is still a lot of truth in how the movie portrays things.

Read the book Team of Rivals these past few weeks and it does a good job explaining what a political genius Lincoln was. No coincidental rise to power. He orchestrated it all and put personal feelings aside and picked people who despised him and downright disrespected him initially to help save the Union. Make no mistake, politics was then much as it is now. But the only time Lincoln started playing favors was when it was time to end slavery. Looking forward to watching the movie.
