Ok, on bass opener every thing is in high gear as fishing gos. The shallows are alive with Bass. Now three of the last four state record bass came from lakes within 20 miles of my house but they were taken near the last full moon before ice. So spring has to many distractions for me to fixate on just Bass.

When I do fish for them near opener I love to wade the shallow with my 7or 8wt fly rod with a olive green Clouser minnow I tied. I work it back in a jerkbait fashion in the holes and pockets along the inside weekline. If there is some currant near by great. It sounds off beat but hey, the average size runs bigger for me and a 6lb bass on s 7wt. Not that is fun!!!!

Looks pretty likely we are going to have a late ice off this year. Might be one of those years when we are going to be in a full pre-spawn mode only on bass opener. Guess it all depends on the weather after ice- out. At least all this snow will hopefully bring some lake levels back up this spring!

I'm going early to southern Wisc. for the first time for bass. Haven't fished much prespawn bass but i'm think I will work lightly weighted tubes, casting them past beds and then creeping it towards the beds, let it sit and make 'em pick it up. I'll throw weightless flukes over any weed cover if its calm. If It's windy, out comes the trusty spinnerbait lol. I'll have a senko a finesse jig and a t-rigged chunk type craw tied on as well.

Probably nothing THAT much different than anybody else reading this.

I think Im gonna use a lot of bluegill colors as well because they eat bass eggs and bass attack them. Darn Gills.
