Suggestions for a couple hours from the twin cities

I'll have some flexibility next week to take a day or two to myself and am trying to figure out a good spot to visit for some ice fishing within a couple hours of the cities. I feel a little lost on Mille Lacs, too wide open, but could be convinced to give that a try.

If you had a day or so to strike out to someplace, where would you go?

Mille Lacs or the Alexandria area. 2 of my favorite day trips. The Alex area can be a fun multi species trip

Early ice for eyes on Mille Lacs. Or Late ice on Mille Lacs for Perch and Tullibees if there are any this year. Right now is the rough stretch of Mid season and can be ok but can also be a complete bust. I'd find a good Northern Lake or the shallow bays of Mille Lacs and do a carpet bombing mission with tip ups for Northerns right now.

Maybe cass lake would be a good option. Smaller than winni or mille lacs, but the same approach can be applied for the perch and walleyes.

Hmmm Alexandria area. I am intrigued. Looks like there are a ton of lakes up that way, any that would be good to check out? What about other lakes out west? Lake Washington looks interesting too, about half as far too.

Cass Lake is still 4+ hours... I am too much of a city boy to drive 9 hours and call it a day+ trip.

Lots of lakes within two hours and closer. Forest Lake, Ham Lake for 2. Go by Mille Lacs u find more. Sullivan, Platte,Hanging Kettle. Pisck 1 and enjoy.

Alexandria area. Lot's of very good lakes in this area for all specie.

Give the Mississippi backwaters a shot. You'll be hooked.

where would a guy startwith the back waters you speak of . access style of fishing safety,current wise. Justnever fishedthem don't even know where they are

from red wing to la crosse ws has a lot to offer as far as backwaters
