upnorth
When you think of no cost, think cheap and cheap is just that. If you want to trust your data to "cheap" by all means go for it. Just don't expect secure and I would expect your data to be kept totally private.
spearchucker
Depending on the type and amount of data to be backed up. You also have to think about how long you have to retrieve it. A good reputable online backup is good, but if you have hundreds of GB to backup and restore, that could take days depending on your internet bandwidth available to you.I would suggest both a local backup and a remote online backup. Shack
Quote:I would suggest both a local backup and a remote online backup.+1Most cases the remote data/files can be instantly view-able via a browser but if the data/files need to be retrieved to be viewed or opened locally from the remote storage point, yes there is the download period to contend with.Remote or local means nothing as far as security goes if the data can be accessed or is tied to anything which is online and accessible from a remote location.IMO remote storage of data with a reputable service is the most secure. Their job is to maintain and provide a high level of secure service and they have teams of Admin and IT techs dedicated to providing just this. Local storage is only secure when totally offline and even with an IT department or a person who is keeping up on industry standards you are just not going to obtain the level of security that a reputable remote data storage provider specializing in this area will be able to offer.
