Boss Hogg
With proper maintenance, how long can a person expect a flasher battery to last? My three flasher batteries are four years old each, and they all are pretty well shot. These units only get used in the winter. Thanks

dan z
4 years I think ya did good. What else last 4 years that only costs $20. I had the original vex battery last for 5 years but they also cost twice as much.
thatoneguy
I get 3-4 years out of 'em, give or take. If you watch for sales, you can usually find one for $15 or so, sometimes even a little less.
highlife4me
My original FL-8 battery is nine years old and still going strong. Bought an FL-12 and AquaView 5 years ago and those batteries only lasted 3 years.
NCLaker
+1 on the 3-4 years is reasonable. To help you get the most life out of your investment: Always make sure you fully recharge after EVERY use. If not using it for a while, always make sure you pull the connections off the battery (unless you have a master off switch). In the off-season months recharge batteries every month or two. P.S. this works on Marcum an Hummingbird batteries too
hotrod1
I believe Fleet Farm has the 9 amp batteries for around $20 right now

Your batteries lasted about an average lifespan, I'd say. Some guys will get on here and say 6-7 years is their AVERAGE life. I tend to think that's true if you fish an hour or so at a time. Those people probably don't fish long enough to notice the fact that a battery that held a charge for 2 full days when it was new now only lasts 3 hours. The one poster above mentioned that a battery he bought a decade or more ago lasted 9 years. I believe it. I tend to think that the stuff they're putting out today has a shorter lifespan. I think it's planned obsolescence / maintenance on their part. Crappyfisherman
Every battery is differant, even in the same band or batch of batteries. Some new ones only last 1 year, some over 5.If you recharge them when done they will last a lot longer. aanderud
If you recharge them when done they will last a lot longer. That's the truth! Don't leave them in a discharged state for very long if you can help it. This is true of any 12 volt battery.
stealth3350
pay attention to the battery u buy.. alot of the cheeper ones are only 7 amp.. but i would go with the 9 amp i noticed huge difference in performance from a 7 to a 9 amp.. just my 2 cents
chris63
One other thing is to make sure you discharge at least 80%of battery capacity before recharging.Leaving a battery discharged in the heat(summer direct sun)or winter subzero cold are the two quickest ways to kill the life of any battery.I know on a remote trip it is hard to recharge but if you can keep a battery warm(winter) before recharge it will definitely extend the life of the battery.c63
schweady
I've got four that are ready for their 8th winter. Just obsessive maintenance and some good fortune, I guess.
Rick G
Over charging and not charging are the two biggest killers of batterys. I get 4-5yrs off mine but I use them almost every day in the winter.
