icefishingmn
Is their a kit or a part that could make a gas auger more silent.
FishinFools
probably not, but there may be something that would make them less loud. Let me know if you find something, my ears are still ringing from the pre-season tune up last weekend.
eyebjim
One problem with a lot of cheap generators is that there is a lot of noise from multiple sources. The intake creates a lot of noise and a lot is also transmitted from the case itself as well as vibration so reducing the exhaust noise may not make it all that much quieter. An open top box around it with acoustic foam on the insides is probably the best solution as some of the noise will be absorbed by the foam and most of the rest will go straight up. You just need to make sure the foam is far enough away from the exhaust that you don't start a fire.

bobbymalone
Let me know if you find something, my ears are still ringing from the pre-season tune up last weekend. I fired mine up in the summer and it blew my eardrums out. I was wondering why it was so much freaking louder than I remembered, then I realized that was probably the only time I ever ran it without a hat covering my ears. The best way to decrease sound is to sell your jiffy and get a different brand
fishnowworknever
I don't think you'd want to put a muffler or anything that restricts the exhaust on a 2 stroke engine that isn't meant to have one on it. The motor would bog quite a bit I would think.
Hawg
They don't run long enough to go thru all that it would take to silence them, why not just use earplugs? If you're worried about showing up on the lake at prime time and offending people, like the cheap generator thread, thats not a auger noise problem, it's silly-me operator error. Hawg
The admins changed that post, I had a lot worse word than "silly me" so my apologies. You know in many of these situations the whole problem is inconsiderate people. Once again, sorry, I didn't mean to hijack the post.
eyebjim
Oops. I had been reading several posts on generator noise and evidently didn't notice this was about a auger.

Just a bit loud in the garage. Took a cheap shot at the post originator and I wish to apologize. Just couldn't figure out how to make something "more silent." Moving on....
