HardwaterHero
Everyone knows that flashers in today's ice fishing world are all very capable of locating fish. I have been exposed to pretty much every flasher on the market but one. The Marcum Lx-7 has caught my attention but I am a little hesitant to pay the $700 when Hummingbird's top end is $500 . Can anyone give me the full review on the pros and cons of this unit. Looking for honesty, not a sales pitch.
Esox_Magnum
Cons... costpros... huge flat veiwing screen ability to display 3 different veiwing options( at the same time, zoom, flasher and graph) easy on the eyes near full dial for water colum while in zoom ability to update via the web and a download so your unit is the same as then next one quiet fully customizable color palets and it's cool lol
HardwaterHero
What is the battery life like? How well does it hold up to in cold weather? Any screen delays?

Random guy
What is the battery life like? How well does it hold up to in cold weather? Any screen delays? The screen has a thermostatically controlled screen heater to prevent any subzero slowdowns.Battery life is good unless the backlight is cranked wide open all day. HardwaterHero
Thanks Fellas. Now that the gray areas have been filled in I believe I can justify the purchase.
Neiko
I bought one right away last year and initially I was disappointed. Luckily they put the update out and it did everything as advertised. This fall I ended up getting a high speed transducer and used it on a little 14ft boat and it was definitely the reason we were catching fish. First time on the lake we spotted a school of fish dropped the line and were reeling them in. First time in my 20+ years I actually kept a pumpkin. 9 inches makes it easy to keep them. Very impressed with the LX7. Checked out the LX6 at the show and I think it is definitely worth the extra $100 for the 7.
muc33
Pretty much summed it up. Read once you have it, too many things that this beast is able to do to not understand how. I learn a new capability every time I use it!
PerchJerker
I like the ability to customize the display, and I change it frequently to fine tune to the conditions / species / locations that I'm fishing. The dynamic depth option is outstanding and maximizes target seperation no mater what depth you're fishing. Zoom and IR are as good as it gets. And I love the big screen. The only complaints I have are the size and weight. It takes up floor space, possibly an issue in a small crowded portable. And it's a big heavy unit, some times when I go hole hopping I leave the LX-7 in the shelter and use a smaller flasher.I've never fished more than a day without recharging it, and have never had it run down in a day.If you want, you can check out the LX-7 and the pricing HERE
eyedr
I had one for a while and sold it. It is nice, but its not necessary to catch fish. If money grew on trees I might keep one but there are other units that are less than a good mortgage payment that help me catch fish. Do I need to be able to tell if the fish I'm about to catch is 26 inches or 27? No. It's my opinion that the guys who use it need to justify how much they spent on it. its not a marcum issue or a vexilar issue. Its a marketing issue for me. Others may find it useful but I need to see if there is a fish down there and if it is responding to my presentation. I don't need to count its scales and tell that it is .7 inches away from my bait with a frown on its face. Then again im old school and use a gps instead of my iphone for navigation and marking spots. I need my electronics to do what I want them too, not a hundred other things that ill pay 3x extra for and never use. I have used vex, marcum and humminbird and they all catch fish. The fl-8 is a work horse and its the entry level unit. Think of all the hooks and minnows you could buy for the extra 500 bucks you spend on an "upper level" unit. Its mostly preference. Do you need a Ferrari to get you to buy groceries? no, but it is a lot cooler.
picksbigwagon
Has anyone hooked it up to their boat for a open water off the transom? My boat needs new electronics and I wouldn't mind killing two birds with one stone

That and the screen is huge and very crisp.
Random guy
I ran one all summer on the bow. The display is very easy to read from a distance.
hnd
and if you compare the pricing of the 7 to the 22hd its like 80-100 bucks more. a no brainer.

My plan is to use an LX-7 with an open water trolling motor mount transducer for the only sonar on that boat next year.
