UV Jig Box Mod

I just finished up this mod, have some buddies that wanted to see it on this forum. I was looking to build something similar to the Rapala charge glow but wanted to be able to keep the jigs in there full time. Hit a switch and charge them for 8-10 seconds, see which ones are glowing well or decided between colors. I could also put the existing jig in there to recharge it. Plus it is just fun to build stuff.

I am using A23 12Volt batteries with corresponding holders. The A23 batteries are small 12volt batteries used in things like garage door openers. The amperage is only 50 mAh hours but I did the math based on the mA for the UV leds and you could get 2 hours of continuous use or 3.5 hours if two A23 batteries are wired in parallel which is what ended up doing. This of course is continuous use, only need 5-10 seconds to blast these so I think it will work fine. I wanted something smaller to charge jigs that wasn't tied to a larger 12 volt vex type battery, something to keep in the pocket. Also don't worry about looking for the UV flashlight etc.

I started out with a TB jig case I had and just laid things out. I picked up some UV Leds of various lengths. I think a longer one or two 4" UV strip running vertical would be best but I was just getting things going for now and put the two smaller (2.4") ones horizontal. The switch is for an RC airplane, it works great, I attached the switch so it could be turned on/off from the outside.

this site is totally amazing! i find ppl here waaaaay ahead of the retail curb as far as buildin/conceptual ideas for fishing. i talked to couple ppl @ TB ice fishing event and still cannot believe how shelter manufacturers have not picked up on the "modding" idea for shelter accessories & innovations. i believe there is a very seasonal market that ppl are willing to spend $$$$$$ on other than electronics where some ppl could make a boatload of $$$$$

Thanks all, I have had some people PM on where I got the items. The batteries I got at my local M*lls F&F store, they are not usually in the normal battery section, I found them hanging in the garage door opener section. The battery holders I ordered off the e*bidding site, a bag of 10 for like $3. The switch is for an RC plane so any hobby store with RC supplies has them, ~$5. I cut one lead off as it is for charging and is only hot when the switch is off. If you test wire/fit it you will see what I mean. The UV lights I ordered from a web site that sells them here in the US. I don't believe I can do a direct link to them because the HSO store sells LEDs as well, but not UV ones. Oznium dot com (Flexible LED Strips) they also sell the batteries and a 5 pack of holders if you need them and can't find them locally. They had a cool touch switch as well that I picked up but didn't use.

For the patent, I would rather pass ideas/mods on and see how people use their creativity and take things to the next level. I'm pretty sure there are a lot of R&D guys who peruse forums of all kinds to get ideas. I'm sure they will send us all our shares after they go to market smile
