Wisconsin Gun Tag Question

Recommended Posts

I have the opportunity to hunt Wisconsin for my first time but don't know if I want to go with shotgun on opener or wait for the muzzleloader season.

I was told that in Wisc. if you buy your gun license and don't fill your tag you can use that tag and hunt with muzzleloader without buying another license. If that's the case I'd just buy the regular gun license and do both.

Is this true?

Thanks

Thanks for the reply!

Yeah it can be peaceful out there, sometimes the deer seem like ghosts that time of year also, it's a tough season.

What are the Wisconsin laws for using a scope on a muzzleloader?

Here in MN you can use a scope on a muzzleloader only during gun season but not during the traditional muzzleloader. I'm not sure how it works in WI.

Yes, Wisconsin has moved out of any form of "Traditional" Muzzleloading requirements. When I first started it was open sites only, then as the Muzzy industry exploded, you seen a scope with 1x being allowed, now they are just as good as most rifles with whatever scope you want. I still stick with traditional as I enjoy giving the deer a real honest chance of winning. I'm not against scopes, everything is evolving to levels no one ever thought of, so as long as I still have options I'm happy smile Good luck

The area in Wisc that we are going doesn't allow rifle so that leaves me with the option to use my 12 ga or my Muzzy.

I'd rather use my Muzzy, I like to only have 1 shot, I'm a bowhunter at heart and the Muzzy is just like a bow but with further range lol. I like the scope on it because I can be a better shot and drop it in the boiler, I have more patients and confidence with the Muzzy.

My Shotty is a pump with open sights, my accuracy isn't as good and for whatever reason I want to unload it when I'm shooting it.

Thanks for the help guys, I read through the Regs but wasn't completely sure of all the laws.

Good luck to everyone!

Hey it's me again lol

A friend and I plan on using blinds on private land. He says we need 144 Sq inches on orange on all sides of our blinds no matter where we hunt.

When I was researching it I thought I read you only have to do that on DNR land.

I plan on using a Ghost Blind but that won't work out to well if I have to put 12x12 orange patches all the way around it.

    • 🤔as a recovering machinist!🤣🤣that must make me a recovering welder!
    • As a recovering machinist, I can appreciate that.  If the spec is 0.001 - 0.0015, then clearly the correct measurement is 0.00125, duh…
    • I just figured that it is easy enough to just get a 3 bank so when the boat is not in use I can keep all 3 batteries charged. I have not bough a charger yet, maybe I will give it some more thought. Edit: After thinking this over, with the size, weight, and heat output of the charger (as well as the cost) I think it makes sense to just buy a 2 bank charger, I have a smaller charger i can use on the starting battery when the boat is sitting at home. Forgive me, for i am a retired engineer and I have to obsess over everything...
    • Congrats on the motor!  I think you’ll like it.   I can’t say much on the charger location but I’ve seen them under the lid in back compartments and under center rod lockers.  160 degrees is more than I expected to hear.   Curious why you’re opting for a 3 bank charger with a 24V trolling motor.  Unless you don’t feel you be running you big motor enough to keep that battery up as well?
    • I did buy an Minnkota Ulterra, thanks for the recommendations. I had a bunch of Cabela"s bucks saved up, which helped. Now i need to get an onboard battery charger. Where do you guys mount these things in your boat? The manufacturer I am looking at {Noco genius) says tht their 3-bank charger will run at 160 degrees, seems like a lot of heat in an enclosed compartment? Thanks for any input on this.
    • You're very lucky a troop of Sea Monkey's didn't carry you away.
    • Wasn't terrible at a state park beach. Antelope island maybe.  I wouldn't recommend it as a beach destination tho.  Figured I was there, I'm getting in it.
    • The water looked and smelled disgusting with hundreds of thousands of birds sh*tting in there.  About as gross as the Salton Sea. When I duck hunted there I didn't even want to touch the water.
    • It's kinda gross with the algae in the summer but I got in it anyway.  Wanted to see the increased bouyancy at work.  You can kinda tuck yourself into a ball and you'll just float with your head above water.  When dry off you look diamond encrusted with the salt.
    • We went to the flats too. I dipped a tire on the rental car onto it just to say I’ve been there, but it was still pretty soft from winter melt. After seeing some moron in a BMW suv get dragged out of the muck I had no intention of repeating his stupidity.
