Custom Rod Design

As a proud owner of many Thorne rods, I am highly considering purchasing another custom rod from Thorne for a Christmas present this year. I emailed Thorne the other day and they are 3-4 weeks out on their custom rods, so I will have enough time to place my order and have the rod built well before the holiday season.

My question is: what main thread and trim thread color combinations do you guys think looks the slickest? I would really like to do a Black Main thread and a Purple Trim thread, or Black Main thread and a Pink Trim thread.

Also, I can't find either the purple or the pink threads in the trim thread drop-down box on the Thorne Custom Ice Rod HSOforum, but I have seen rods built with different colors before..

I am most likely going to purchase a Tripwire rod and I was thinking if I did the Black Main thread and Purple Trim thread and put the yellow spring bobber on the rod, it could be a Viking Rod. However, the Pink trim thread would be just as awesome because I could match the Pink trim thread to the pink spring bobber.

Keep in mind this rod will be a Christmas present for the GF...

Chris, unless your girlfriend is totally into black, I'd pick a color that will offer more bling. The graphite is pretty much black already. I just ordered a rod with neon orange as the primary with summer sky as the trim.

Here are the prowrap color options, pretty sure Thorne can do any of these:

I ordered a Noodle last week.. Went with Purple Main and Gold under. I was there in person, and it sure looked like they had every color you could think of upstairs. I cant wait.

Like others have said it's up to you. There are many colors combinations to choose from. I have a burgundy main with white/smoke trim, a lighter blue main with white/smoke trim, and tonight I just picked up one with hunter green main and silver trim which I really like. I know my quiverstick will be a dark grey or black main with red trim.

I ordered a powernoodle for my wife at the portable mod get together. got it less than 3 weeks later. I let her pick out the colors, she went with hot pink main wrap with a purple accent. looks good, the last few inches of the rod is hot pink too to see the bite. she loves it.

Unless your painting the guide wraps or marbling them some how I think my pic is as close as it gets lol

Brown and baby blue... Or I suppose that would be Chocolate and maybe the Summer Sky on that board.

I'd even say a matte chocolate blank, with metallic brown main and baby blue accents would be a sexy piece. Pink spring bobber would still work there (maybe a bit too let's have a baby with pink and blue though).

If I was gonna name the paint on that car I would call it Two Stroke Slick. Thats just what it looks like to me.

I get all my Thorne Bro rods the same colors, silver and green. I dont even remember why.

I am headed up to Thorne Bros. this Wednesday to place an order for a custom rod. I think I am going to go with a custom Finesse blank with outside guides built up at 24" with the 3" titanium spring bobber (Essentially a 27" Tripwire). I think I am going to go with a Purple main thread and a Pink trim thread with the Pink beaded spring bobber.

I hope this rod turns out the way I'm thinking it will. Hopefully the GF will love the Christmas present!

The quiverstick is a dark grey blank. Just in case you didn't know. The darker main thread may show well. This may be the look you want. Just sharing info. I picked my custom up last wee with red main and gold trim.cant wait for ice to try it.
