Thanks so much Brad, I apprecite your reply posts!

So much to think about. I am the only one who ice fishes, the rest of my acquaintances open water fish. So I am trying to find the best bang for the buck. In my previous thread, I have a decent sled, but with what is out (I used to have a pop up and had to carry so much in the sled) I am trying to find one that I can have the shelter part of the sled, but not have it weigh so much that it is made for an ATV, rather sweat and muscle

I guess if I were to ask you to list a top three for me, what would you recommend? I don't want to shell out the extra cash for the thermals (although they are perfect for me), but my last pop up had very thin thread count.

Thank you!

I have a Scout and reflectix on the ceiling (I also only walk/pull when I fish). It is such a small area my small buddy heater gets it plenty hot - at times I dont even need it on. I would get the scout and spend $15 on reflectix (put it on the ceiling) and you will be set. Super light and a great house to fish out of. My Yukon hasn't been used for 2 years - way to heavy to walk and pull.

So was at Costco today.....got the Clam Base Camp. I could not resist the price. I had a hub before and it had some issues like height space. Listen, this has good space and room inside for anything. Three chairs can fit and other stuff. I feel I made a good choice and saved hundreds.

Thanks everyone!

My Scout is four years old. Back when I got it, Clam came out with a separate thermal cap that was made as an addition/upgrade to the non-insulated Scout. It fits around the poles and velcro inside the house. Very well made with nice thermal fabric. I don't know if these are still available - might be an option for some folks.

I agree that the reflectix is a nice upgrade on non-insulated houses.

I think you could still get the thermal insert for the scout as of last year. Not sure of this year. The scout is so small and short I've never seen a need for thermal in mine. I know it doesn't drip with thermal but that never really bugs me. I only use my heater in the scout on very cold days. Otherwise my body heat seems to be enough with quick blasts of the heater if my hole ices up a bit. The base camp is nice mascot I have the thermal version and love it for 3 people and sometimes 4. The scout and base camp both have there places in my world, but I doubt you'll dislike the base camp. good luck this season.

the Clam Hubs have improved since their introduction. this is the first year they have the new 11MM poles and stronger hub systems. the new poles have been flex tested by Clam to see if there would be any problems. the new poles passed with flying colors. Because of this improvement in the hub style house I have decided to try one out for my self this season. I have a Bigfoot XL2000 on order and I am looking forward to getting it. My plans for this is to spear out of it and be able to have more space if I bring a couple friends with when I fish out of it. If after fishing out of it this season I find that I like the hub style house then I would order a Bigfoot XL4000T and the Bigfoot XL6000 at the begining of next season. The advantage of the Bigfoot XL4000T is that it is a full thermal hub house and the MSRP(319.99) is in the same range as the one man sled house you asked about. the size on it is 8' X 8' with 82" ceiling height.

If you do still decide that you are looking for a one man sled type house I would add in looking at the Clam Bigmouth (Gander Mountain exclusive for this sesaon), it is based on the Scout TC but the difference is the pole closes to the ice expands in width which gives you more fishable area. going price at Gander for these is $349.99 for the non thermal model and $399.99 for the full thermal model. stick to the two you asked about and include the Bigmouth as another option. these are the three I recommend if you want one with a thermal top or full thermal. now if looking for a non thermal one man I would check out the Kenai. This is the one man sled type house I run and have found it to be a good house for early and late ice. the only draw back to it is that it does get condensation in the ceiling because of being non thermal, but all non thermals will do this so I don't see it as to big of deal. it's more of a inconvenience.

Unfortunately, it looks as if those are sold out. frown

Just remember with a hub it is not as mobile as a flipover. You definitely have to use ice anchors so if you want to move to a different area you burn up a lot of time taking it down and putting it back up.

That is what has been my biggest decision. This base camp was $170 and after a test run yesterday, it seems very nice.

HOWEVER, yes, I do need portability. I just need to find the best bang for the buck. This is my third year ice fishing (mostly solo) and had a hub prior but got rid of it, as it was not that great.

So frustrated...

I have an older (scout) version.

Some things about it I like/dislike.

Light - like

Pulls easy - like

Heats well with single buddy - like

No extending poles for flipping - like

No door - dislike

Can't bank on windy days - dislike

Limited floor space - dislike

Tub Storage - limited

Ceiling height, lower than you think, I hit it when seting the hook, maybe that is why my userbame is what it is. grin

Rippinlip,if you buy a new tent for your scout, you would have a door, and be able to bank it. Clam, has them on sale now.

Thanks, did not know that.

Just got the word from the misses that I should look at a bigger house so my wife and daughter could go with.

Looks like an addition to the family, ice house that is.
