Tip for rusty ice lures...

work sucks

Recommended Posts

I pulled out my ice tacklebox and was surprised to find that there was a considerable amount of rust on my lures. cry I did a little searching around on the net for a solution. There were a few ideas including soaking them with WD40 and buffing the rust off, but that didn't sound like the best plan. One solution I found was to soak them in Coke for 5-10 minutes, this sounded worth a try. Here is what I did...

Took all lures and placed in a glad sealable container. Filled over the lures with Coke. Mixed up and soaked for about 15 minutes. Put lured in a strainer and rinsed with water. Spread out on counter, then dryed with a hair dryer. WOW, all my jigs look brand new!

I also cleand out my tacklebox and I am going to get some anti-rust strips to line the compartments in hopes that I don't deal with this in the future.

I recommend this to anyone who has similar problems with rusty lure! Quick and easy. wink

Very good idea! I just pulled down my tackle and there's some rust. Rather than spend the money on those strips just save some of the little desiccant packets than come in everything and say do not eat on them. They have silica gel beads in them and absorb water.

As far a removing the hooks, I just put the whole jig in. The paint was not damaged either. The only jigs that didn't clean up the best were the Frostee jigs. I think because they have a mor rough finish on them. I thought that I was going to have to scrap half of my jigs, but only ended up having to replace a coulpe treble hooks on some of my jigging spoons.
