First Signs of ice!!!!

Last night coming off a local lake after slab hunting we noticed a sound in front of the boat. That sound was none other then a sheet of ice covering the shore. This is music to my ears and im sure to many more. The Crappie have also put on some extra weight since I was there last weekend. Wont be long now!!!

Sure would be nice to have early ice for a change. It's been a very long time since I have been able to drive safely on Minnetonka before the first of the year. Back in the Eighties I used to take off the week between Christmas and New Years and go fishing on Minnetonka every day. I was always able to drive on the lake that week back then.

Yup, I was out trolling on Saturday night, and the boat was covered in ice by the time I got done fishing. Only two and a half (or three) months to go!!!

I crawled out of my tent sunday morning to find my boat crusted in white stuff Guess i'm not looking forward to ice as much as you guys...But after 72 hours in the cold this weekend...Who would want MORE COLD..

I rarely drive on the ice, generally just pull my stuff out from shore. I've usually been able to get out on Minnetonka by the second week of December. So by my count we're about 60 days away from ice fishing. Time to start checking reels and replacing line.

With these much below normal temperatures, maybe we will get some early ice. The earliest I remember putting the house out on 6-8 inches of ice was November 18th.

You are right about it being cold over the weekend. I was on a lake north of Duluth on Sunday. After about 6 hours of the wind pushing 40 degree temps we were frozen to the bone. We saw a couple of guys camped out on an island and commented that it must have been one challenging weekend to sit through this windy cold snap. The season changing cold front didn't help the catch rate either.
