Best shop around Mankato for a transmission rebuild?

Recommended Posts

No thanks on the dealer! A&B quoted me 350 labor plus parts. Seems reasonable but they seemed concerned about part availability. It kind of bugged me because I thought the parts for C4's were readily available. I can order a rebuild kit out of any catalog.

A and B has been around a long time. I had them rebuild a transmission in a 76 chevy Blazer I drove back in the earlier 90's and they had a great reputation even back then.

As far as your c4 goes, that 2-3 flare is not necessarily a sign that a rebuild is necessary, it was a fairly common problem especially when the ponies were pumped up. I believe, if I am not mistaken, that the problem was in the servo and there are ways to fix that that don't require the rebuild if it isn't necessary for any other reason. Try doing a google search for your problem and you might find a fairly inexpensive fix.

Yes, as long as the fluid isnt burnt, it more then likely just needs a servo, or a valve body rebuild (sticky valve).

I too would like to see the mechanics face at the dealer when you brought it in there for a rebuild smile

The c4 tranny is a very simple tranny to rebuild, but it is old school, and a dealer tech isnt going to want to touch it. Unless he is an older guy.

Are you planning on pulling the tranny yourself? or just bringing the entire car in?

How far from Mankato are you willing to travel?

Nothing special about the rebuild. I was planning on pulling the transmission before storage, but if its just a servo or valve body issue, that can be done with it in correct? Why do you ask Scott? Got a recommendation or need some christmas money? smile

I would do it, but fall is just to busy for me. To many things to shoot, and catch. But there is a guy in Lesueur that rebuilds them fairly cheap, on a regular basis. If your interested, let me know, I will get you his contact info.
