Cherry flavoring for a rub

I make my own rub for bbq'ing and would like to add some cherry flavor to a new rub. I know it must be out there somewhere, because there are a few sold commercially. I can't find what they use to get the cherry flavor.

Is it a cherry salt? Sugar?

Does anyone know what they use and where a guy can pick some up?

I dont know of a cherry spice but you could marinate with cherry juice or maybe cherry jam.

spray it on the smoker with cherry juice instead of apple juice

Or dehydrate cherries and chop em up super fine in a food processor.

You can buy dried cherries at the store, and at Sam's club. If they don't work in the rub, they are great on oatmeal.

Get a jar of marischio cherries and throw the whole thing (except for the stems ) in the blender. Make a paste and rub it on.
