thermocell?

Recommended Posts

Im on the fence about it, some do an some refuse. I tink Id stick to my guns an spray down during or at the site for association smell while hunting, rather than risk them getting a whif of unfamiliar propane discharge, they use propane cylinders right? So I guese i lean towards Nay, for me

Ive used it deer hunting with no issues. But Im choosing not to for bear just because there definetly is an odor with it. I bought the earth mats. The earth mats do not smell good. So if I can smell it Im not going to introduce that to the area.

Im torn....I have friends that deer hunt on the ground that swear by em, but I just think it could be a deal breaker if they smell it. On the other hand swatting squiters won't do me any favors if I'm seen either.. I have l leafy suit that's suppose to be mosquito proof...NOT!

Thanks guys

I tell clients not to use them unless absolutely neccessary. If they can not sit still and keep from fidgeting and swatting, then turn it on. Otherwise, tough it out to be safe. It doesn't seem to hurt when they are seeing bears, but what did not come while using the thermocell is an un known.

The other thing to remember Jay is the area that you are hunting and the remoteness of it. I suppose it is more critical not to use a thermocell in areas where you have more hunting pressure and human presence. I do have exclusive use for almost 500 sq miles of bear hunting grounds with minimal human interactions threw out it and do not notice a big difference for those who use them and do not. If you are going on a guided hunt, listen to your outfitter/guide, he will have the best knowledge for the area you are hunting.

I never personally used one for hunting but we bought one for sitting out on the deck. Used it twice and one night there was a little breeze....useless. The other night it was dead calm and it worked. As far as spooking game, I dont have a clue. But years ago when I smoked, I had a 6 sneak up on me from downwind, hunting on the ground and smoking a cigarette. ...go figure
