Maybe the last flasher battery you'll ever buy

As far as Lithium batteries not doing well in the cold, that seems odd to me. I use the AA and AAA sized ones (Li-Ion) in my headlamp and GPS specifically because they seem to work much better in the cold.

I have noticed that Li-Poly batteries don't work as well when cold in my devices which use them.

This came up briefly last year and I've been looking into it a bit more for the coming year. Has anyone converted their ice gear batteries to Lithium type?

The price is starting to come down to a point in which it might make sense to make the switch.

Why should you consider it?

How about 1/2 the weight, available in 10ah, and maybe 5-10 times the life span of standard lead acid batteries!

The specific ones I've found can be now had for as little as $119 if you do some interwebz snooping.

I have to say that taking a couple of pounds off the weight of a flasher sure would help hole hopping wink

I know this is an old post, but has anyone purchased one of these? Just curious. They are expensive on their HSOforum and couldn't find them anywhere else. Would love to get one if I could find them cheaper.

Also, now that lithium batteries are in power tools, anybody know of a kit to use those? I think my batteries are around 4ah, which would be fine for an afternoon - and lighter to lug around.

I have a Shorai motorcycle battery in my LX-9 and it's awesome - twice the capacity of a gel and probably 1/4 the weight? Also fits in the gel holder perfectly. I'd stick to either Shorai or EarthX - they are high quality and made to last, and Lithium batteries aren't play things.

Thanks for the tip Iceboy!!! Those seem like great options! Way cheaper with more capacity than the ones above!!

Have you had any issues using them, as far as low temps? Or any other issues?

CJH, I'm assuming that you were looking at the Solar Sportsman HSOforum. Keep in mind that while their might be another Lithium Ion battery on the market, the same technology isn't utilized and corners were cut to knock down the price point.

There are many different benefits in relation to this battery. While DTro your earlier posts indicated run time based on a 10ah battery would be around 25 hours per calculations. This technology actually allows for longer run times and a FL-18 on a 7ah Solar Sportsman battery tested out at 31 hours of run time. In addition to the longer run time, the charge time is significantly reduced to under 2 hours for a complete charge.

This is a direct response from Solar Sportsman in regards to a competitor at a lower price point...

This is right from their HSOforum. The Lithium make up is the same, However they do not use the proprietary battery management system. This component is what controls the charge and discharge and prevents deep draw downs that can greatly reduce battery life or permanently damage cells. Also the improper use of an unapproved charger will not preform the same or can damage the battery. The K2 charger offered is about $50 ours it is included. So you have a $200 set up without a management system (the single most important element for use and longevity with this technology). Please relay this on. When I find a battery that is equivalent to or better than ours I will be more than happy to be the first to tell you about it.

If anyone is interested and would like to save some money on one of these, let me know and I will send you a coupon code to use at checkout.

I will be running a pair of these this winter and excited to fish lighter and fish longer!

I like to try new things and I like the idea of lighter weight and saving a couple bucks...

But I'm still new to this and not sure how to PM...,

Check you PMs under "My Stuff" on the top and center of the screen. I sent you a code.
