Eric Wettschreck
The town I live in is building a park. There is a verticle concrete retaining wall. The plan is to attach kassota stones to this wall for a better looking wall. The concrete wall is brand new. The stones are round and flat, not bricks. My thinking is to use some type of adhesive to attach the stones to the concrete wall, and morter inbetween them. But, I'm no stone mason so I'm not real sure what to do.It's a small town. All volunteer labor with no money to hire this out so we get what we get.I've put down brick and block but never done this. Any tips or trick for attaching kassota stone to a cement wall??? Pinusbanksiana
Get the concrete wall clean first, you may have to gently sandblast it if there is any paint or oils of any kind on it. Other than that, make sure it is damp first or the concrete may suck all the moisture out of the thinset and cause it to crumble.
Jameson
I only know enough masonry to be dangerous, so take this for what it's worth. I'd try to drill in few anchors to the concrete wall, then cover the wall with a heavy duty screen mesh. Mortar everything together fitting your stones neatly around the anchors. This should guarantee the stones sticking to the wall. Either by the mortar sticking stone to wall, or mortar grabbing onto anchors and mesh which is attached to wall.Probably didn't describe what I'm thinking very well. Good luck. That is what I would suggest too.
SFC
Call the stone yard that sells this type of stone. After you find out what is needed ask for a donation on products needed for install. Mighty bond or another bonding agent or wire mesh.
