Huntin&Fishin
I just picked up ThemaCell unit for mosquitos, They come to me like crazy. For those of you that have this, how do you like it?
highlife4me
Some evenings they work better than others, if the winds are calm and lower humidity it seems to work best. Very expensive to use unless you find the refills on sale.
harvey lee
You can refill the cartridges as you get enough of the chemical pad to go much longer than the 1 cartridge. In the wind, they really do not work that well but if it is windy, I have never needed it on windy days. When it's not windy, I place it on the console of my boat ansd it keeps the bugs out of the boat from front to rear and the boat is 16.5ft long. I was fishing on evening and another boat was approx 20 yards away on the river. We were all catching walleyes and the other boat was leaving and I asked if they had filled out. They said no, we cannot stand the bugs and asked if they were bothering us at all. I said no, I have my Thermo cell on.Now, If one places the unit in our 24ft race trailer it does not work all that well if all the lights are on in the trailer. I guess with the lights attracting the bugs, the Thermo cell cannot keep up.For boat usage, I am 100% satisfied with it's performance. harvey lee
Here is a way to refill your empty cartridges.Just be careful. I did 5 of them the other day and have used 2 and they worked great refilled at the cost of pennies vs the spendy ones in the store.http://www.hotspotoutdoors.com/forum/ubb...ll_Butan#UNREAD
Dylan33
hey Vexilarman- This things are awesome...as mentioned, they are kind of spendy and don't work great when the wind is blowing. But on calm nights, start it up, give it 10-15 minutes to start working and enjoy. I use mine while fishing off my dock at night at the cabin(something that was unthinkable before this), and while on my deck in the evenings at home. It takes some getting used to, because you can still hear the misquitos buzzing around, but, for the most part, they just can't get to you. And from my experience, they are safe around kids and pets and pregnant ladies too. (as long as your not using it inside or have the unit sitting right in front of your face)

Rippinlip
Wife and I should be on their payroll, we have referred a ton of people to these units. We both use the single hand held units for hunting and sitting around outside. We also have the latern for camping.I do not reload the units like referenced above, sure it works though.Sitting at the firework show last night I had to laugh, there was bug spray be sprayed on all over the place and when friends and strangers walked by us and we had out Thermacells on and no bug spray out, they were very inquistive. We showed them how they worked and said Wow, we need to get one of those.Should have had some extra Thermacells with, could have sold a few. Wish-I-Were-Fishn
Do you guys use the holster?
haleysgold
They sound like a slick deal.Question: Do they will work if you're not staying put in 1 area? We've been been picking berries and gettin the livin s--t bit outta us. Repellant just sweats off in the heat.Just wondering how effective they are when you're moving around.
Rippinlip
We haven't used the holsters yet....will be purchasing them here soon, real soon.Haven't really tried them on the move, but I do fire mine up when leaving the truck heading for the deer stand in early season to make sure the wick is nice and hot when I get to my stand. Never really thought about it if it repels them away on the move or not.Try it, it couldn't hurt.
Dylan33
I have a hard time getting mine to ignite. Any help would be appreciated. thanks WFT Try 5-6 clicks in rapid succession to get it started. That usually gets it done.
haleysgold
Anyone else ever use these "on the move"?The reviews are great, if you're sitting relatively in 1 spot. The negative reviews are from the ones that tried to use them while moving. They thought all the scent was being left behind them as they moved along. That makes sense to me. If the purpose of these are to create a "bubble" around you and you move out that bubble...you just left your protection until a new bubble forms. Anybody else think that theory holds water or tried it?Good info here...glad I caught up with this thread !
DonBo
I know several who use them while at the archery range, moving from one target to another. They really swear by them for that purpose, though the bugs are worse while standing still waiting to shoot or while pulling arrows and the thermacell works great then. Mid-Lake Rock
The Save Big Money Store has them on sale for $19.99 with a free refill package. Sale ends on the 15th. The refill alone is $6.48 of savings. ThermaCell also has a $5.00 rebate coupon on their HSOforum. Rebate expires on Sept. 14.

tsande00
I seem to be the only unhappy customer. I picked up the lantern Thermacell a couple weeks ago due to the hype I read here. I figured if this contraption keeps the bugs off the cat fisherman on the river it must be great. I also read mostly positive reviews on Amazon. I've been eaten alive all three times I've tried this and it was a nice calm evening every time. The only thing I can think of is it was very humid and somebody mentioned above that they thought the humidity played a negative effect. I'm not ready to give up on it but I honestly can't say I've been the least bit impressed.
Wish-I-Were-Fishn
I don't use the lantern version. Maybe that's the difference?
lispeej
I went on their HSOforum but cannot find the rebate. Is it still there?
Mid-Lake Rock
Google "Thermacell Rebate."
lispeej
Google "Thermacell Rebate." I have no idea why I didn't think of that. Thanks. I got it now.
lispeej
Looks like the rebate isn't good for the realtree combo with clip. The upc of the combo wasn't part of the mentioned numbers.
