Kenseth out at Roush

There were some rumors floating around this weekend about Kenseth looking to take his talents to another team next year and apparently they were more than just rumors. The speculation is that he'll end up at Gibbs.

Silly season has begun!

Getting rid of Kenseth for Ricky Stenhouse, Jr? I'm pretty surprised...unless Kenseth wanted out at Rousch. Stenhouse has been good in Nationwide, but....

I've heard the Gibbs rumor also. If I were Michael Waltrip, I'd put one heck of an offer together for him. Waltrip Racing has come a long way in a short time. Pair him up with Bowyer, Truex, and Martin / Vickers he would have a very solid stable of drivers.

I think for both Roush and Kenseth it comes down to $$$. Roush has been having a tough time finding sponsors for both Cup and Nationwide, and with Kenseth leaving it should free up some cash and make it a little easier to run the #17 car without his high salary on the books...and since his contract was up I'm sure he'd be looking for an even bigger paycheck than he's getting now. Slap a rookie in there for peanuts and basically ride it out until we get out of this recession and the sponsors come back to the table.

I think limitout is right, money had a big part in Kenseth leaving and the fact that they are looking to bring in thier next generation of drivers. I am pretty sure Kenseth and Gibbs are a done deal, good for him but I would really like to see him stay with Ford. It's too bad Penske wasn't looking to start a 3rd team, they could benefit from a veteran.

Matt Kenseth has a Sprint Cup ride in place for 2013 and beyond, the NASCAR point leader from Cambridge told the Journal Sentinel on Wednesday in his first print media interview since announcing he would leave Roush Fenway Racing at the end of the season. When that deal is announced is undetermined, Kenseth said. The decision to leave was made in a meeting last week with team owner Jack Roush, Kenseth said. "There's a lot of stuff through the season that's probably led us to this point," Kenseth said. "There isn't really a smoking gun, there really isn't an inside story about a firing or an argument or really any of that. At the end of the day, I had an opportunity to go try something else. The timing all worked out. I think everything happens for a reason. Things just kind of lined up to maybe try something else in 2013 and beyond that I'm kind of excited about.

My guess is stewart-hass has a new driver.

I don't think Danica is a threat to do anything in NASCAR.

I don't mean that in a bad way.I think the pub they get out of her goes a long way but the reality is she is a mid of the pack driver at best.

Kenseth is a top 15 driver all day long.

I agree, but Danica has been signed to run full time next year (I believe) and if they pulled that rug out from underneath her it wouldn't be a popular move with the fans. Who knows how her contract is structured. I would think there would be a big buy out clause if they made that move which left her high and dry.

Newman is a free agent after this season but really can't see him going anywhere else.

There is talk of Andretti starting a Dodge team, but you would think that Kenseth would go to an established outfit at this point in his fairly young career. Right now all signs point to Gibbs for Kenseth, but with all these Toyota engines oiling down the track every week he may be rethinking that decision! whistle

DW says today to not count out MWR for Kenseth to go to. DW seems to think that MWR has a shot at Matt.

Would Martin have to go then?

With Roush having a hard time getting sponsership I would think MWR would have to give up a driver instead of adding a car to the stable.

Roush said that Kenseth is going over to the "Dark Side", and considering his hate of Toyota (much like the rest of the NASCAR fan base) it seems that it is pretty safe to assume it'll be a Toilet-odor team.
