Rein ask the counter person at the autoparts store for the rearview mirror glue. It will be about $2. Clean both surfaces really well with alcohol and make sure you get the old glue off the surface it is still on.

Try to do it when it is cooler out (morning or evening) and follow the directions on the package. Takes about 15 - 30 mins.

If it doesn't work you can scratch the glass with emery cloth. I had to do this, it wouldn't stick otherwise, and its still on. Make sure it is dry before sticking it on, and that it is the right direction. I think its easier to stick the metal "chip" first, let it dry a few hours, then put the mirror on.

I had this happen too. I went to town and stopped at Harmon glass, the service tect got out a new metal part the mirror slides on and glued it to the windscheild, he said no charge, if you ever need a window replaced remember us.

I realize that you have probably already fixed it Reinhard, but if you haven't gotten around to it yet, definitely glue the metal tab on first and let it dry thoroughly (if it was mine, I would probably wait 24 hours) before trying to put the mirror on. I worked in an auto parts place for quite a while, and found that if people tried to hang the mirror on there too quickly it would fall right back off again.
