"Tubes, jigs, Flukes, Ring Fry, Senkos"

For punching thru vegies; I've had my best luck with a texas rig, and a pegged heavy sinker. Seems for me; even heavy jigs still pick up gunk compared to the texas rig.

Hiya -

For dock skipping, I almost always use a tube with an internal weight. several companies make them. I bought piles of the Lindy ones when they were on clearance, and they're great. A Senko works good too. But I can skip a tube with an internal weight a long ways...

I don't punch mats too often - really don't have milfoil where I fish, and only occasionally will I run into coontail mats. When I do punch mats, I actually use a straight-tailed worm a lot of the time. The Havoc slop craws work good too. I agree with kicknbass that the weeds have to be clean underneath to some degree. And if the surface is covered with filamentous algae, it's miserable to fish in.

Cheers,

RK

How do you rig senkos for skipping? What's your favorite way to rig them?

I rig my senkos wacky style with the rubber washer. I also use a spinning setup for this technique. In fact, last weekend I won my Wed. league night on Waverly with this technique. All of my favorite docks were either pulled or sitting under the water frown.

I have never had great success with punching mats. I dunno what I'm doing wrong, some of my buddies swear by it. I now only punch mats when I miss a blowup while I'm frog fishing. In fact, my punching rod is always sitting at my feet whenever I'm throwing frogs over heavy cover.

Here's the bait I like for punching:

Start with heavy braided line on a heav rod. Put a smart peg on first, then a 1oz tungsten weight. Next I tie a polymer knot to a trokar flipping hook and texas rig a beaver with the hook tip completely burried. You will get some weeds that you have to pick off between casts, but it is worth the work when you get slammed under a mat.

For docks the ring fry or zero. The zero is heavy enough to use without weights and just about indestrutible, you can get well over 15-fish per zero.

Punching mats, Rodent or Flippin Tube. Extra Heavy rod, 65-pound braid, size 4/0 hook and 1/2-ounce to 1-ounce sinker.

Yes, they have been out for a number of years. They also work good as a jig-worm plastic. I like to add a little fishing glue to a mushroom head jig, just before I push the plastic tight to the head.
