Make a fillet knife sheath

Scott M

Question

My dog chewed up my fillet knife sheath. I need something to replace it. Looks don't matter. I was thinking heavy duty cardboard wrapped with duct tape and in the middle maybe some sort of plastic to keep it from cutting through. Other ideas?

I melted a milk jug down crudely (~260 in an oven) around the blade, then wrapped it with duck tape. It's actually a pretty tight fit. Kudos to rupprider.

Sweet! Glad it worked. I'll have to keep the milk jug in mind. Kydex gets spendy in a hurry.

7" blade, Rapala knife. I have an extra sheath for a 4" rapala...last thing I remember was watching that 4" knife slowly sink and twist down a hole in Burntside Lake...That's the weekend I met Mr. Northlander and the garbage bags in his fish house grin

I recycle plastic flying saucers for things like this.

You can make one out of wood. Pick up some parting stop, you''ll find that with the moldings at Menards. Cut it off at 16" and run it through a table saw with stacked dado blade set at 1/8th".

Of use a utility knife to cut the outline and a chisel to remove the field.

The end will look like this.

Now cut that in half and glue it together.
