soldoncass
I am surprised he's retiring now, before his contract is up. I was hoping the many competitors for cb, would eliminate him anyway. I have a longshot favorite to take his place.....Nick Taylor. Faster, quicker, and a better ballhawk, at least that is my hope. I like to root for the little guy, longshots. I am of the opinion that Allen was only on the team because of his draft position, and terible depth at cb. Good luck to him wherever he goes/ does next. SkunkedAgain
Agreed that Allen wasn't a stud CB and that the Vikings' lack of depth gave him a spot on the roster. However, the lack of depth problem is now even worse in the short term. The reality of NFL drafts is that you hope for one or two rookies to contribute, but that's no guarantee. The Asher Allen article that I read mentioned that he's had concussions in the second half of the last two seasons. If I were a 24 year old kid, hearing about the old NFL dudes killing themselves and the possible link to concussions, I'd retire with my $2.2 million rookie contract (or whatever he got paid) and enjoy the fact that I got to play at the top level of football for a few years. Good luck Asher.
