Fluke Hooks

Doing alot of smallie fishing, my favorite lure by far is the Zoom super fluk and Mag Super fluke. I current use a wide gap worm hook, but havent been haveing much luck with keeping the fluke on the hook, seems like every 2-3 fish the top is mangled from where the hook is going in the top. I have been looking at ,maybe using some swimbait style hooks with the cork screw keeper deal on them. Do you guys think that would be a better option for this style of fishing....Thanks

Hitch Series keepers will save you lots of $$$ in plastics in just one season. I used half as many craw/jig trailers last year due to the hitch series keepers. I can't imagine fishing any plastics without them.

Hiya -

Amen on the Hitch Series. Those things are amazing. But...if the top where the hook is going in is what's getting chewed up, it'll only help to a point.

That aside, unless you're fishing the flukes weightless and/or around cover, is there any reason why you're using a wide gap instead of a light jighead?

If I'm adding any weight to them at all I put them on a jighead. Adding weights is nauseating because it takes so much time, and baits last way longer on a jighead. I use a 1/16 or even 1/32 oz jig in shallow water. Can cast the bait farther, fish it a little faster, and they really dart when you snap/reel them. Best of all hooking percentage is WAY better with a jighead, in my experience anyhow.

Just a thought.

I REALLY like the Hitch Series Keepers, too!

If you want to use your wide gap hook, check out the Texas Rig Hitch. It will pin your bait to the hook.

If you are going to try the swim bait hook with the cork screw keeper, attach the Trailer Hitch through the eye of the hook and it will keep the cork screw from pulling out of the nose of your bait.

I agree with RK, I also like to use a small jig head and snap these around. With this application, the Bait Hitch Hitch will keep your bait from sliding down.

I never throw any type of plastics without the Hitch Series Keepers. They save on the frustrations you mentioned with the baits sliding down the hook. They extend the life of your plastics, like Deitz said, saving you money and maybe more importantly, you will fish with more confidence knowing you bait is staying rigged properly.

They have sure help me fish better!
