TUMBLEWEED
Was out breaking in the new Mercury Optilast Friday, and spotted what I thought was a log floating nearby. Not wantingto risk lower end damage to my new motorI idled over to remove it. Much to my amazement, as I neared it, it began toswim away!! It was a musky with only its head out of the water!! I dropped downthe trolling motor and followed it aroundfor awhile. It finally sank down and tookoff. What gives??? I can only assume thatit was admiring my shiny new boat!!!!! LocalGuide
Last summer I saw a Pike that was around 15lbs doing that. But I think that one went after a boat prop. It had a little gash in its left side. But after a while it went back down fine.------------------And keep those hooks sharp!
MT Net
Cool! Congrats on the shiny new boat. Either that, or it was getting a coppertone tan. Look! No tan lines! ------------------Metro IBOT #130 Clamping at Happy Hour
muskybuck
Last summer I saw two northerns doing that. One about 2 lbs and the other about 5-6 pounds. The 2 pounder was cruising around with its mouth open like it was straining the surface. The bigger one was just sitting there with its head sticking out. Rino
I've read that Northerns and Muskies will sun themselfs to speed up digestion. They are cold blooded animals and it helps rev them up.

Trailblazin
2 yrs ago on Mille Lacs, we saw 6 muskies all sunning in less than a foot of water. It was a guided trip and we threw everything at them. They barely moved - I even had a sluggo in front of one of the muskies nose - nothing! All of thes muskies were at least 42-48 inches too....
