Days of simple new boat and motor seem gone

I had a lot of fun purchasing a Lund 14 foot Fury with a 25 hp eTec. Should be a decent rig for backwaters etc. Compliments by Pro V 1775.

Then it starts to get complicated

1. Simultaneously I could upgrade my ProV bow mount electric by going to 24 volt system, getting the terra nova for easy of deployment, get the gps system to hover on a spot AND have a transducer built into the electric. That means getting compatible electronics, making care to match frequencies... And while I am upgrading the bow motor on the old Pro V why not get an equally good system on the new 14 foot Fury.

Will my older LCX 19 and my 522c be compatible with unites made to read and transmit data

All I want to do for sure it to get the bow mount up and down without a tussle, have them employ gps to hone in on a course or specific point on the water, have ample power, units not interfere with each other (a bow mount and a stern mount). Be able to read water under the bow from seat in bow and vice versa.

You need a PHD in this stuff to have it all under hand. I am open to suggestions.

Yeah, as I put my ice fishing stuff away I think how nice and simple that stuff is.

I am going to break my post into smaller segments to elicit some advice.

I'm going to have to disagree with your statement that the "simple" days are gone.

1; It's simpler now because you don't have to work on the motor for two hours after using it for 3 hours.

2; The equipment now just plain old works, the motor starts at 30 or 100 degrees and idles like it should, no coughing or sputtering at all.

3; They still make transom mounted hand controled trolling motors and flasher style graphs.

All kidding aside, take the time to learn ALL the stuff that your new equipment can do and it will make life alot easier on the water.

I'll add,that you should review the manaul and watch youtube education videos on your electronics before getting out on the water. I was with a friend that tried to wing it, only to waste a bunch of time trying to figure it out (instead of fishing) and making it worse he didn't bring the manauls. $2500 in gear between the trolling motor and graph/gps and could hardly figure out how to use it.

He amen to the comment about reliability of gear now a days. My kids get tired of me saying how much I value getting on the water, turning the key, and having my outboard start. I have had outboards dating back to 1950's vintage and my share of fussy, unreliable, full-of-surprises gear.

Also good comment on stuff like YouTube for demonstrations etc.. I am just starting to catch on to that.

I ordered a sonar today and decided to skip the side view stuff, though...got enough to study with new electric motor, new sonar etc..

I bought a new boat a few years back. No complications here. I left the cheapy Lowrance on there because it tells me depth and temperature. I don't have to worry about any of the electronics stuff and I feel that I enjoy fishing more. Yeah maybe I could catch more fish with more fancy gear, but I haven't had to watch any YouTube videos or read pages of operating manuals. I turn the key, motor to a spot, and fish.

That works for me and the simple days are still around for this guy! Like anything in life, you can make things as simple or as complicated as you want it to be.

I have a 55PD bowmount connected to a a FL-8, a 70 horse Suzuki 4 stroke, a Lowrance 15 MT, a 54 inch Cabela's drift sock and a digger anchor.

All of this stuff is 12-15 years old and used about 75 days a year. I've replaced tne brain box for the Suzuki and otherwise it all works as well as when I bought it and I can do it all presentation-wise.

This stuff is as simple or as complicated as you want to make it.

I like MNfishingguy's post. It seems the simpler the better. I continuously see guys in 14-16 footers outfish the big, new boat guys who are forever messing with something instead of actually fishing.

For walleye's at least, it's all about electronics you know how to read and the right tools and understanding how and when to use them for proper boat control.

Ya got to do your homework! Learn all the electronics stuff while the boat is on the trailer! When you have nothing to do, grab a refreshment, get in the boat, turn on the electronics and push every button on the unit. You won't miss a single fish when you're dry land fishing! But you can learn so much about the electronics and have it set up just like you want it, that all you have to do is get on the water and fish instead of messing with the electronics. Beats watching dancing with the stars!
