Unbelievable!

Yesterday I went for a walk along the township road boarding our property and something caught my attention in the road ditch. There were 15 sunfish and 3 crappies dumped in the ditch! What is wrong with some people? If they didn't want the fish, why did they take them from the lake? I would gladly let them dump them into my freezer. A couple years ago while walking that same road I discovered five rooster carcasses dumped in the ditch. Some people have no sense at all.

I took a guy fishing once and we caught a limit of eyes. He asked if he could have my limit for a fish fry and I said no problem.

A few days later I was talking to him and I asked him if he got enough fish for his fish fry. He said no, he forgot them in the bucket overnight and threw them the next morning. I said you could have cleaned them no problem as it was in Oct and pretty cool overnight.

No more fishing for us together.

My Father taught me one thing and drilled it into my head, if you shoot it or keep it while fishing, you clean it and either eat it or give it to another to enjoy.

It is very sad to hear storys like that, why people have to be lazy pigs like that is sickening.

My dad used to say the exact same thing too harvey, the only time i keep fish now is if im going to eat them the same night becasue i dont like freezing fish (wich is like 4 times a year) and im usually just keeping enough for me as my gf dont care for fish too much.

Some people think you need to keep fish for fishing to be worth your time. I was catching a bunch of crappies earlier this year next to another boat who had kept his limit from that spot the day before asks me "you only keeping the 12+"rs?" i told hime i just like catchin for fun and he just gave me a funny look as if i was wasting my time.

Sorry to hear about stuff like that, wanton waste is just heart breaking. Like many others, I am usually just fishing for the love of fishing (C&R), and when I do keep some, it's only enough for that nights meal. My frozen fish are in the winter.

I am lucky to have a Father who has a great love and respect for nature and all that opportunities it can provide for us. He and his hunting and fishing buddies were nice enough to let me tag along when I was very young and probably slowed them down. They taught me that cleaning the days game was just as important as catching or shooting it, so only keep what you can use. I will always remember their saying "Tomorrows fish with keep better in the lake" and "If you shoot it, you clean it and eat it, so choose wisely"

I hate to hear about stuff like that. I found about 15 walleyes thrown next to a boat ramp up in Canada a few years ago. They had to be over the limit fish because the lake we were fishing on was limited to 2 fish. I'll bet whoever did it got a tip from someone launching at the ramp that the MNR was doing a game check further down the road.

I had a friend growing up that operated similar to this. He and his dad loved hunting and fishing, but didn't really like to eat it, but kept everything they caught. They gave everything away, which is okay, but they really ticked some landowners off because they would ask for permission hunt spots once during the season, then assume they had permission for the rest of the year. They would clean out a sharptail/prairie chicken spot in a week if they could, but wouldn't eat a one of them. I was always raised that even if the landowner gave you verbal blanket permission, you ALWAYS check with them and ask again before going in to hunt or fish. Common courtesy, etiquette, and respect as far as I'm concerned.

My family was having dinner with a few other people, and we started talking about duck hunting in ND, and they were telling us how great they were doing up there. The day before they said they said they lost count how many ducks they shot. I believe their exact quotes was "the ducks kept flying in so we kept shooting them."

So I asked what they did with the ducks and they said they didnt find them all and most of what they did find, they threw them in the ditch. My dad raised me to keep and eat everything I hunt or catch. So my dad was upset and we all decided we'd never hunt with these guys again.

There is no understanding that sort of waste. It all goes back to what you were taught when you were young. Unfortunately for many it's not much. Sad.

What pains me is having to slide a mortally wounded fish back into the lake due to slots.

I understand the need for slots and understand what would happen if you could keep a wounded fish but boy it just kills me to waste one. frown

I know just what you mean Hookey!!!!

I quit duck hunting just because I did not enjoy eating them at all. It was mostly bad cooking on my part at the time.I was brought up with the mentality that you eat what you catch or shoot.

No exceptions!!!

I've found in the past few years since I learned how to release a fish, that my fishing actually improved! I don't know if it is karma or just that I feel better. My brother in-law almost fainted into the lake last year when I was with him. I caught a 18" walleye got a picture and slipped it right back in the water. I told him that (1) I usually don't keep the first fish unless I'm confident that I can catch a few more keepers and (2) I was busy later in the evening so I wouldn't have time to fillet. I think some people just need an attitude adjustment, if you know what I mean!
