NCAA needs to get rid of the red line

I love watching college hockey on an Olympic sheet but these NCAA games are just like watching the pros when you put them on the small sheet of ice. A couple of years ago I heard how great hockey in the Olympics were to watch. Give those skaters some open ice and it is, but the pro game is boring, IMO.

After watching the BC trap last night I have to start and wonder why wouldn't every team do that. Put 3 guys on the red line and 2 D on your own blue line. Offensive player either ices it, gets pummeled or coughs it up. Pretty much a pro game.

If they were to get rid of the red line it would open up center ice and neutralize the trap. Yeah you would get a lot more dumping of the puck but I'd rather have that then this stand back and let them come to you approach. You should reward the team that is the most aggressive, not the most passive.

Thoughts?

Jacques Lemaire just rolled over in his recliner after reading that... grin

I think it would help open up the game. The players are so big fast and strong the college game does resemble the pro game of yesteryear.

I'm having a senior moment here .... when did, the NHL and or college get rid of the red line as far as 2 line passes go? Or am I off on that? Actually college and international never used the red for 2 line I believe?

I don't think College or the Olymics have ever had a 2 line pass, NHL dumped it maybe 4-5 years back?

]The gophs had no answer to the trap.

I think they did ok, plenty of scoring chances but not much finishing touch, had they got 1 or 2 early we are talking about a different game. Wheels fell off end of the 2nd and 3rd.

Lemaire made some average Wild teams look good with that trap, but it still was boring hockey, IMO. Would much rather watch a game at Mariucci or the NHC where there is more room to move.

BC had a good team with a lot of talent. It was funny watching Melrose with the crayon and BC just stacked up in that little area.

BC's trap wouldn't have worked if the Gophs could have dumped after there own blue line. Would be fun to watch having 3 forecheckers coming down with a full head of steam. BC would adjust their game and still be good but it would be much funner from a fan perspective.

    • As a recovering machinist, I can appreciate that.  If the spec is 0.001 - 0.0015, then clearly the correct measurement is 0.00125, duh…
    • I just figured that it is easy enough to just get a 3 bank so when the boat is not in use I can keep all 3 batteries charged. I have not bough a charger yet, maybe I will give it some more thought. Edit: After thinking this over, with the size, weight, and heat output of the charger (as well as the cost) I think it makes sense to just buy a 2 bank charger, I have a smaller charger i can use on the starting battery when the boat is sitting at home. Forgive me, for i am a retired engineer and I have to obsess over everything...
    • Congrats on the motor!  I think you’ll like it.   I can’t say much on the charger location but I’ve seen them under the lid in back compartments and under center rod lockers.  160 degrees is more than I expected to hear.   Curious why you’re opting for a 3 bank charger with a 24V trolling motor.  Unless you don’t feel you be running you big motor enough to keep that battery up as well?
    • I did buy an Minnkota Ulterra, thanks for the recommendations. I had a bunch of Cabela"s bucks saved up, which helped. Now i need to get an onboard battery charger. Where do you guys mount these things in your boat? The manufacturer I am looking at {Noco genius) says tht their 3-bank charger will run at 160 degrees, seems like a lot of heat in an enclosed compartment? Thanks for any input on this.
    • You're very lucky a troop of Sea Monkey's didn't carry you away.
    • Wasn't terrible at a state park beach. Antelope island maybe.  I wouldn't recommend it as a beach destination tho.  Figured I was there, I'm getting in it.
    • The water looked and smelled disgusting with hundreds of thousands of birds sh*tting in there.  About as gross as the Salton Sea. When I duck hunted there I didn't even want to touch the water.
    • It's kinda gross with the algae in the summer but I got in it anyway.  Wanted to see the increased bouyancy at work.  You can kinda tuck yourself into a ball and you'll just float with your head above water.  When dry off you look diamond encrusted with the salt.
    • We went to the flats too. I dipped a tire on the rental car onto it just to say I’ve been there, but it was still pretty soft from winter melt. After seeing some moron in a BMW suv get dragged out of the muck I had no intention of repeating his stupidity.
    • I've been out on the flats. It's like being on a different planet
