Species Identification

I think one of its parents got frisky with somebody that wasn't a green sunfish.

The body is not as compressed as a green sunfish's should be (its too round and bluegill-lookin), the coloration is a bit off as well - its fins should have a yellowish-orange tint at their edges, but they don't. It is also missing the characteristic black spot at the base of the dorsal and anal fins.

Looks like a hybrid to me.

See my old panfish identification post on FM linked below. It is a Green/BlueGill combo, a Bream. I find hybrids to be very aggressive, especially when its green mix. They can become very pesky when your trying to target a certain species of panfish or other gamefish if abundant in the area. Alot people will confuse this hybrid fish with actual pure breeds such as blue gills, green sunfish, warmouth, pumpkinseed etc. Be aware that colors may vary and be very bright or dark. Bream hybrids and Greens can survive in poor water quality and are often found infected with heavy neascus or other parasites.

Pushbutton - I'll play by the rules set forth smile . I figured I'd take the pic hoping was a pure Green.

I actually caught two of these about the same size yesterday. I've not caught them out of that lake before, but it looks like they've been in there a while by the size of them.
