Bambito
Does anyone know of anything out there that will bring back your grass from dog urine? I have dead spots all over in the yard from the dogs. Thanks!
LwnmwnMan2
Rake up the dead grass, spread Gypsum like mad (you can't over apply Gypsum) and reseed. If you have some new dirt sitting around from another project, or if the area is quite large, I would recommend topdressing the entire area with 1" of soil and reseeding.OR, putting in a planting area complete with mulch and teaching the dog to go in the mulch. This can be hit or miss as well, as some dogs aren't going to like the feeling of the mulch. Griggs
I have the same issue. My sod is about 3 years old. Do I need to cut out the dead sod first?
crappiegetter
My parents used to buy this pill you give your dogs so their urine doesn't kill the grass, I believe you can get it from the pet store but not too sure.

This is what I have done, on both accounts. Taught my dog to go in the wood chips in the backyard, with good success. Gypsum has worked in the past for the "oops" spots from visiting dogs. However I have a spot I need to take care of in the front yard along the edge of my property from the neighbor dogs!!! Once one pees, they all seem to go there. I flushed the spot with a bunch of water and applied gypsum last week, going to prep the ground and plant see whenever it warms up!! May have to invest in a motion activated sprinkler!!!!! lovetoicefish
LwnMnMan, Correct me if I'm wrong. First rake the area good to get all the thatch out and work the soil(loosen), spread about an inch of good black dirt, spread the Gypsum, and seed. I actually plan on renting a power thatcher and working it up good 1st. Your thoughts.....
LwnmwnMan2
That should work.

Cut out dead grass, cut a little piece of sod and replace. Simple and you quickly have new lawn, no waiting for seed to grow.
crothmeier
I do the gypsum trick every spring. Chalk it up to part of dog ownership. For the first 4 years I had my dog trained in one spot, then i moved and well, cant teach and old dog new tricks when the wife and the kids have her out too. deerminator
How bad are they? The spots? My dogs pee on a spot, it turns yellow for a bit and then grows back in lush green. I wish they'd pee all over the yard!!! That's my approach.
