Donated rod

Recommended Posts

The handi capped group I guide for each year in North Dakota has a banquet every year the last night of the hunt on Saturday night. We collect items for the banquet for the silent auction and the live auction.

This year I am building a spinning rod to donate for the live auction.

Tell me how this sounds.

7' ML St Croix SCV legend Elite rod blank with split cedar wood grips and the location where the reel seats connects I have my son turning a piece of whitetail antler to use there.

This rod will have the micro guides in black and the thread color is garnet.

Then I have a whitetail antler on the wood with the wording Twist of Fate which is the name of the group I guide for. This is on the piece of cedar at the butt of the rod.

In the end on the butt end, I am putting a set of whitetail antlers on a decal for that spot.

On the rod blank in front of the foregrip, I have a decal with the Twist of Fate name and phyically challenged archery hunt. Also on the decal is an arrow and on the other side will be a buck deer head.

I had Chad at Huderle custom rods turn the red cedar grips for me and he also put the declas on the wood. They almost look like they were burned into the wood as he did that nice of a job. For anyone looking to purchase some custom red cedar grips or for decal work, Chad does simply awesome work.

When I have this done in a week or so, I will post some pics of this rod.

I am hoping this goes over big at the live auction to raise some extra funds for the handi capped archer we bring in to hunt for 5 days every fall.

We bring in up to 15 phyically challenged archers from all over the U.S. and this hunt is totally free from the food, lodging, license and the guided hunt. All of the deer are also professionally butchered for the hunter.

This hunt is the highlight of all of my fall activities.

Twist of Fate logo with hardwoods background wrapped on the blank in front of the foregrip.

Pictures are large but I had too as I wanted all to show for the wording and decals. Not that great with the camera for zooming in.

The space between the butt end and the back of the reel seat with the blank garnet thread wrap was put there incase the person who receives this rod can add his name in that position if they so choose.

Scupper

I went online to google and pull up some photo's to use.

Chad @ Huderle Custom Rod's makes and sells waterslide decals and I had Chad use this photo and then add the deer head in front of the wording I also had Chad print on the decal. Chad does an awesome job on the waterslide decals.

I also did a underwrap for the decal in garnet with a grey trim in front to tie all the guides wraps and wraps by the grips together. I was please with how it all tied together.

Hope the person that recieves this is also pleased.

Thank you for explaining your process. Very creative and thought out.

I'm most confident in the recipients joy of receiving your custom creation.

Scott

P.S, in the past, I've had communication with Chad and he is very insightful with his knowledge in sharing of the custom rod building process.

Well, the hunt and banquet and auction was this past weekend.

The rod I built was auctioned off and 7 people really wanted the rod and it sold for $400.

Some of the guys asked if this was going to be an annual thing as they wanted one of these rods. I said I would be building another for the auction again next Sept.

I was very happy with the dollar amount as I was a bit concerned that it would not go for enough.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
