What Is your HEAD worth to you. Mine is worth about 300 bucks. I bought a Scorpion EXO 500 oil. It has a built in sun visor that is built in to the helmet. So clear during normal riding, get some sun a flip the sun shade down. I LOVE IT! Oh and it has a pump in it so when those cheek pads go flat, you can pump it up to get it to fit snug again.

I have a modular HJC with the extra sun shield that I can adjust if needed. Cost me a whopping $150. The nice thing about the modular feature is if you stop for gas or any other reason, it's easier to flip the face shield up instead of taking the entire helmet off.

I have looked at them and really like the way they work but I was looking at some reviews that said they do make some noise when running at higher speeds.

proper fit will reduce noise considerably. Although I'm an oddball where an XL is slightly too big but a lg is a little too tight, the XL does allow a little more noise. It's amazing how quickly fatigue sets in from the wind buffeting inside the helmet. Hopefully once we get through our spring and beginning of summer, I can upgrade.

Shuberth is probably one of the best you can find but also carries the highest price with helmets going for $600 and the intercom for each helmet can run as high as $400 PER HELMET... eek

I tried one on at the cycle show last month and they're incredibly light and are supposed to be one of the quietest helmets made.

When buying a helmet you MUST go try on as many brands as possible. They DO fit differently. The brand that fits good on my head may not be the one that fits good on your head.

FWIW, I have a Shoei Multitec (~$400). Not the most quiet, but it's a wonderful fit on my head. Best, by far for me, of more than six brands I tried including Bell, HJC, Arai, Nolan, etc., etc.

IMO, no sense buying a poor fitting, uncomfortable helmet because you'll be even less inclined to wear it. So, again, try on many, shop by fit and comfort, worry about the price tag after you find one that actually fits and is comfortable (as helmets go, that is).

Even though the Shoei I bought was quite a bit more than I had set out to pay, the moment I put it on (was one of the last ones I tried) I knew that was the fit for me.

I echo what whoaru99 said. I bought my first helmet after trying on just a few helmets. It fit but I found later it was not a good fit for me. Chin strap was too far back so it kept sliding back on my had and eventually I wound up with neck cramps.

Make sure you can move your head back and forth and side to side without the helmet restricting your movements. Make sure the chin strap fits under your jaw comfortably and not pulling back toward the neck. Hard to pay attention the the road if you are futzing with your helmet.

I don't care for the full face as it just feels a bit claustrophobic for me, but I do like a visor or face shield. @ 70 mph a large bug hurts and I have had a few pretty large splats on the visor would stung pretty bad on the face.

The latest DOT rating for a helmet is the one I would purchase and as stated, one that fits properly.

Do not get cheap with a helmet as it could save your life.

I had a bad accident years ago and ended up hitting a cars winshield with my head.

Car helmets for racing may be different but my son pays in the $700 plus range for one.

It's great you are asking as the helmet could easily save your life one day.

Do your family a favoir and get a better than average one. If something bad happens, you will be very thankful you got the helmet that meets the needs.

      As a recovering machinist, I can appreciate that.  If the spec is 0.001 - 0.0015, then clearly the correct measurement is 0.00125, duh…

      I just figured that it is easy enough to just get a 3 bank so when the boat is not in use I can keep all 3 batteries charged. I have not bough a charger yet, maybe I will give it some more thought. Edit: After thinking this over, with the size, weight, and heat output of the charger (as well as the cost) I think it makes sense to just buy a 2 bank charger, I have a smaller charger i can use on the starting battery when the boat is sitting at home. Forgive me, for i am a retired engineer and I have to obsess over everything...

      Congrats on the motor!  I think you’ll like it.   I can’t say much on the charger location but I’ve seen them under the lid in back compartments and under center rod lockers.  160 degrees is more than I expected to hear.   Curious why you’re opting for a 3 bank charger with a 24V trolling motor.  Unless you don’t feel you be running you big motor enough to keep that battery up as well?

      I did buy an Minnkota Ulterra, thanks for the recommendations. I had a bunch of Cabela"s bucks saved up, which helped. Now i need to get an onboard battery charger. Where do you guys mount these things in your boat? The manufacturer I am looking at {Noco genius) says tht their 3-bank charger will run at 160 degrees, seems like a lot of heat in an enclosed compartment? Thanks for any input on this.

      Wasn't terrible at a state park beach. Antelope island maybe.  I wouldn't recommend it as a beach destination tho.  Figured I was there, I'm getting in it.

      The water looked and smelled disgusting with hundreds of thousands of birds sh*tting in there.  About as gross as the Salton Sea. When I duck hunted there I didn't even want to touch the water.

      It's kinda gross with the algae in the summer but I got in it anyway.  Wanted to see the increased bouyancy at work.  You can kinda tuck yourself into a ball and you'll just float with your head above water.  When dry off you look diamond encrusted with the salt.

      We went to the flats too. I dipped a tire on the rental car onto it just to say I’ve been there,but it was still pretty soft from winter melt. After seeing some moron in a BMW suv get dragged out of the muck I had no intention of repeating his stupidity.
