Looking to buy 24v trolling motor

fishnowworknever

Question

Currently I have a 12v 55lb on my 17' yarcraft..way under powered (it came with it). I know I need a 24v but not sure what size.

I'd like to know what you all suggest to replace it with..and when. Do trolling motors go on sale near the end of the open water season? I can hold out one more season if it means I'll save a hundred or two.

Thanks

IMO if you're gonna go with a 24v setup do it right and go at least 80#. You don't want to have "enough" power, you want to have more than you usually will need. It's much easier on the batteries too. Going to the trouble and expense to upgrade just for a 20# increase from what you have now hardly seems worth it.

I'm guessing your Yarry is a little heavier than the Crestliner, I run an 80# on my 18ft Ranger, work it hard and like it, but wouldn't hesitate for second to upgrade to a 101# or whatever the next increment is if I had the opportunity.

jhall, nows a good time to buy id say,and as far a what? id get a minnkota

terrova with the i-pilot, 24 volt 80lb,60" shaft, 80 lb should be plenty for most situations for your boat,

minnkota has a $80.00 rebate on the terrovas going on now,and if you have a cabelas acct. you maybe able to get some more off the price,

goodluck,

mike,

I am in the market for a new bow mount, but not sure what to get. I have a 17.5 ft smokercraft fazer, light for it's size approx. 800 lbs. dry weight. Does anyone have a similar set up, if so what motor do you have?

I think a 65# would be ok on that smokercraft.

On the other boat I would go 80# like suggested.

If you're looking at a 24 volt motor, you're looking at 80 lbs of thrust if you go with a Terrova or 70 lbs of thrust if you go with a PowerDrive V2.

The Terrova has a rebate right now if buy it with an i-Pilot pre-installed. There is no rebate on the PowerDrive V2.

If you go with a 12 volt motor, you're looking at 55 lbs of thrust in either the Terrova or the PD V2.

You can check out all models, options and pricing at Trolling Motors Here if you want.

2c Get the biggest # thrust you can.

I have 80# on a 14' jon boat and there are times I wish I had more. For example, in the spring when the river is near flood stage like last year.
