I'm sure that NASCAR will look into ways of changing/protecting those rocket fuel tanks a little better. It's hard to prevent catastrophes like this but you look foolish if it happens a second time and you never tried to make a change after the first time.

It was a pretty good race. A lot less drivers were pushing on the left rears and into the corners, although there were still some massive crashes. Biffle and Kenseth were just too strong. They perfectly hooked up on the last couple restarts and nobody could touch them.

I thought that the post-race interviews were pretty interesting. DW was blabbering on about how good of a teammate Biffle was to Kenseth, letting him win the race. Then they cut to Junior Earnhardt talking to Biffle in his car and walking away a little frustrated. Next they interview Junior and he says that he thought Biffle would make the outside run but didn't so he had to go it alone. The final interview was with Biffle, who essentially said that he and Junior didn't link up right to make a run at the 17. He at first blamed himself for not dragging a little bit to get on Junior's splitter and also blamed Junior for not being fast enough to be up on his bumper.

Either Biffle was making fake excuses for helping his teammate, or he really botched a run for the checkered flag. The 88 was all ready to make the push and Biffle twice ducked back down. When Junior finally made his run for the lead, it looked to me that Biffle ducked low to take away any side draft from the 88.

I don't know what to think. Either Kenseth did not have a restrictor plate on his car, or Biffle really had no desire to leave Kenseth and go for the win. That was the first 2-car tandem I have seen this season NOT be able to run down and pass a single car running ahead of them. Jr. was locked on Biff's bumper and was pushing pretty good it looked like to me.

BUT...Biffle is a racer. I just cannot see him rolling over for Kenseth either, especially when he had a great chance to win the race.

I'll just leave it at it was a good race and fun to watch.

Maybe Biffle was riding his brakes!

^^^^^ That's what I think happened...but, I want to believe that Biffle would not give up a chance to win the Daytona 500 just to make sure his teammate won.

I mean, if he really lets Dale Jr. push him, Biffle ends up with the lead for sure and then he has to deal with Jr. trying to get by him. At best he wins and at worst he finishes second.

If he sandbagged for Kenseth by really riding his brake, at best Biffle finishes second with no chance for the win, then ended up third.

Maybe Jack Rousch got on the radio and told Biffle if he didn't protect Kenseth, that Jack himself was going to "fly" Biffle home. shocked

One thing that this race did do is to increase the number of Monday night nascar fans. They say they had a 22% jump over a sunday race. Other than that i thought the race was kind of boring. Oh well they are here this weekend so it should be fun with the sun in their eyes.

What kind of crack are you smoking. It affected not only your thinking but also your ability to type.

The replays CLEARLY showed sparks fly out of the back of Montoya's car prior to it fishtailing and then racing up the track. You obviously missed or ignored that bit of crucial evidence.

Some good stuff obviously. It's also quite obvious his name fits him very well. wink

Dale Earnhardt Jr. acquires car that Montoya crashed into jet dryer

LAS VEGAS – As a famous NASCAR driver, one would expect Dale Earnhardt Jr. to have a valuable car collection.

But it’s a collection of crashed cars – and its newest addition – that has people talking.

Among the cars in the collection? The Earnhardt Ganassi Racing car that Juan Pablo Montoya crashed into a jet dryer during the Daytona 500 Feb. 27 at Daytona International Speedway.

Both Montoya and the jet dryer driver escaped injury as both Montoya’s car and the jet dryer caught fire. The ensuing fireball resulted in a delay of more than two hours during the race.

Now Montoya’s red Target-sponsored Chevy sits in the woods on Earnhardt Jr.’s 200-acre property in Mooresville, N.C., a gift from former Hendrick Motorsports engineer Chris Heroy, who worked on Earnhardt Jr.’s crew last year and is now Montoya’s crew chief at EGR.

“[Heroy] is a buddy of mine and he gave it to me,” Earnhardt Jr. said. “I’ve got 50 or 60 cars out there. I didn’t buy any of them.”

The Montoya car automatically became one of the most famous cars on Earnhardt Jr.’s property.

“That one ranks right up there,” Earnhardt Jr. said. “I’ve got the [Nationwide] car that [Dennis] Setzer flipped when he was driving for [brad] Keselowski at Talladega. It ranks right up there. It’s one of the top two or three.

“I don’t even know where they put it. I’ll have to go find it.”

The jet dryer was the property of Michigan International Speedway and is still in Daytona being analyzed by speedway and NASCAR officials.

“I’d like to have it, but I don’t know where it is,” Earnhardt Jr. said. “I think we’ll just stick to race cars out there.”
